Its four groups are things that are white, kinds of lettuce, Batman villains, and things with literal or figurative ears. The complete answer key is below, followed by notes on the board’s misleading pairings.
Hints for Connections #683
- Yellow: Things that share a color.
- Green: Salad greens.
- Blue: Enemies of the Caped Crusader.
- Purple: Things associated with ears in different senses.
How the tricky words fit
ICEBERG may suggest a frozen landform, but here it is a type of lettuce. SCARECROW and CORNFIELD may look like a pair, but SCARECROW belongs with the Batman villains. The purple group depends on different meanings of “ears”: corn has ears, musicians use their ears to hear, pitchers have handles sometimes called ears, and walls are said to have ears.

When a word seems to fit more than one idea, look for the four-word set with the clearest shared meaning. A tempting pair is not enough: each category needs four words, with no awkward leftover.

How Connections works
Connections presents 16 words to divide into four themed groups of four. Categories can hinge on straightforward meanings or more abstract associations, so checking how every word fits can help distinguish an intended group from a plausible red herring. The puzzle is available through NYT Games on desktop and mobile; TechRadar described play as free in its April 23, 2025 guide. TechRadar’s April 24, 2025 answer guide and Parade’s April 24, 2025 guide independently report the solution.
