If you want to solve it yourself first, use the hints below in order; the complete answer follows.
Hints for Connections #804
- First group: Think about what you might add while maintaining a vehicle.
- Second group: These are places that can host a concert or sporting event.
- Third group: These words describe dishonest or sneaky behavior.
- Fourth group: These are relatively recent creations or technologies.
How to solve the board
The vehicle hint points to four fluids or substances added to a car. For the venue group, look past differences in size and history: each word can mean a large place for public events. “Chicanery,” “legerdemain,” and “subterfuge” are less everyday terms, but they share the idea of trickery with “deceit.” The final set is the broadest: its words are all associated with modern inventions, though the category is less precise about when each one began.

Connections #804 answers for August 23
| Category | Words |
|---|---|
| Liquids you put into cars | BRAKE FLUID, COOLANT, FUEL, OIL |

| Skulduggery | CHICANERY, DECEIT, LEGERDEMAIN, SUBTERFUGE |

Why the purple group is tricky
“Modern inventions” is a loose connection rather than a sharply defined category. TechRadar notes that the examples do not all have the same origin period, and that smartwatch types existed in the 1990s. The puzzle’s category is best read as a broad grouping of contemporary technologies and products, not as a claim that every item was invented in the same decade.
