Spoiler: These are the answers to NYT Connections puzzle #991 for Thursday, February 26, 2026. The four groups are “Pivotal point,” “Green things,” “Elements of joke-telling” and “___ please.”

Connections #991 answers for February 26

Connections asks players to sort 16 words into four groups of four. Here is the complete solution, with each category and its words:

Color Category Words
Yellow Pivotal point CROSSROADS, LANDMARK, MILESTONE, WATERSHED
Green Green things GRASSHOPPER, SHAMROCK, STATUE OF LIBERTY, WASABI
Blue Elements of joke-telling CALLBACK, PUNCHLINE, SETUP, TIMING
Purple “___ please” ATTENTION, CHECK, DRUMROLL, PRETTY

Why the Statue of Liberty is in the green group

The Statue of Liberty is the less obvious fit in “Green things.” Its familiar green surface is patina: when new, the statue was shiny reddish-brown copper, which turned green through natural oxidation over the following decades. The other words in the group are a grasshopper, a shamrock and wasabi.

How the remaining groups fit

Yellow: Pivotal point

A crossroads, landmark, milestone or watershed can each describe a turning point or significant stage.
