This guide covers the historical NYT Connections puzzle #932, published Monday, December 29, 2025—not today’s puzzle. Stop at the hint or category sections if you want to avoid seeing the full solution.

How to use these hints

Connections asks you to sort 16 entries into four groups of four based on a shared link. For this puzzle, the hints below progress from broad clues to category names and then the complete answer groups.

Word list

GENE, OPAL, SWIMMING, COURSE, TIDE, TISSUE, INFINITY, ATHLETICS, OUTIE, DIRECTION, EQUESTRIAN, CELL, PROTEIN, MINNIE, TREND, TRIATHLON.

Group clues

  • One group consists of words associated with a tendency or direction.
  • One group contains biological structures.
  • One group is made up of Summer Olympic events.
  • One group sounds like names of car brands.

Category names

Spoilers below: The four categories are TENDENCY, BIOLOGICAL STRUCTURES, SUMMER OLYMPIC EVENTS, and CAR BRAND HOMOPHONES.

Full Connections #932 answers

Yellow — TENDENCY: COURSE, DIRECTION, TIDE, TREND.

Green — BIOLOGICAL STRUCTURES: CELL, GENE, PROTEIN, TISSUE.

Blue — SUMMER OLYMPIC EVENTS: ATHLETICS, EQUESTRIAN, SWIMMING, TRIATHLON.

Purple — CAR BRAND HOMOPHONES: INFINITY, MINNIE, OPAL, OUTIE. The intended wordplay points to Infiniti, Mini, Opel, and Audi. OUTIE is not a strict phonetic match for Audi, so treat this as the puzzle’s intended sound-alike grouping rather than a perfect set of homophones.

Why a December 29 guide may be dated December 28

NYT Connections puzzles change at midnight in each time zone, so a guide published the previous calendar day can refer to the December 29 puzzle. Puzzle #932 is the dated game covered here, not a live daily answer page.
