How Connections works

Connections gives players sixteen words to sort into four groups of four that share a theme. The groups are color-coded by difficulty: yellow is easiest and purple is trickiest. The New York Times says the categories are editor-curated using the Oxford Dictionary, and words can seem to fit more than one category—one reason to use the clues before looking at the key.
