How Connections works
Connections presents 16 words and asks players to sort them into four groups of four that share a theme. Each group is color-coded: yellow is the easiest and purple the trickiest. NYT says editors curate the words and categories using the Oxford Dictionary. The daily puzzle releases at midnight in each player’s timezone, so the date shown can differ by location. See the NYT Games Help Center for the game’s rules and current information.

Finding archived Connections puzzles
The NYT Help Center says the archive reaches back to June 12, 2023 and is available to All Access and Games subscribers. An NYT account is needed for archive progress and play history; archived plays affect some statistics, and completed archived puzzles cannot be replayed. Subscription and archive access can change, so check NYT’s current Games access details before relying on availability.
