Hints for Connections on June 6, 2025

The clues progress from broad to more specific. Stop when you have enough to solve the groups.

  1. Yellow: Look for newspaper and journalism jobs.
  2. Green: Find four words meaning ordinary, typical, or regular.
  3. Blue: Consider possible meanings of “con,” including a convention, a criminal, a drawback, or a swindle.
  4. Purple: Each answer ends with a kind of dog.

Answers for Connections #726

Spoilers below: the category names and complete word groups follow.

Color Category Answers
Yellow Newspaper jobs COLUMNIST, EDITOR, PHOTOGRAPHER, REPORTER
Green Everyday COMMON, REGULAR, ROUTINE, STANDARD
Blue What “con” might mean CONVENTION, CRIMINAL, DRAWBACK, SWINDLE
Purple Ending with kinds of dogs NEWSHOUND, SHADOWBOXER, SNICKERDOODLE, TRENDSETTER

Why NEWSHOUND is a trap

NEWSHOUND looks like it could fit the newspaper-jobs group because it begins with “news.” It belongs in purple instead: the words end in hound, boxer, doodle, and setter. One TechRadar guide author said he initially placed NEWSHOUND with the newspaper jobs; that is an individual account, not a measure of how players generally performed.

How NYT Connections works

The New York Times describes the game as 16 words that players sort into four groups of four. The groups are marked yellow, green, blue, and purple, from easiest to trickiest. Each puzzle has one solution, but words may seem to fit more than one theme. The daily puzzle becomes available at midnight in the player’s timezone. See the official Connections game for current play details.
