How Connections works

Connections asks players to sort 16 words into four groups of four related words. Try Hard Guides describes the groups as progressing from easiest to trickiest and says players may make up to four mistakes; that is a secondary-source description, not a verified current official rules statement.

What puzzle-solving research says—and doesn’t say

A 2024 study by Angel Yahir Loredo Lopez, Tyler McDonald, and Ali Emami evaluated six recent large language models, a machine-learning heuristic, and human participants across multiple puzzle-solving setups. Its dataset contained 358 puzzles. In the paper’s “Full Hints” condition, the authors reported 40.25% accuracy for Claude 3.5 and 60.67% for human participants. Those results describe the study’s experimental sample and methods; they do not measure how difficult puzzle #714 was for ordinary players.
