  • Yellow — Glide: Coast, Cruise, Drift, Float
  • Green — Associated with Count Dracula: Bat, Cape, Castle, Fang
  • Blue — Stop Changing: Flatten, Level, Plateau, Settle
  • Purple — Things that are Long and Cylindrical: Baton, Cigar, Hoagie, Torpedo

Why the purple group fits

A baton, cigar, hoagie, and torpedo are all long, roughly cylindrical items. The other groups connect through ways of gliding, familiar Count Dracula associations, and words for reaching a stable or unchanging state.

How NYT Connections works

Connections asks players to sort 16 words into four groups of four based on a shared theme. Each group is color-coded; yellow is generally the easiest and purple the trickiest, according to the NYT Games Help Center.
