Hints for Connections #144
The board had 16 words to sort into four groups of four. Connections uses color-coded categories, with yellow generally the most straightforward and purple the most difficult; misleading overlaps and wordplay can make an apparent match a red herring. How to spot the connections
Start with the direct synonyms
BURN, KINDLE, LIGHT, and TORCH all work as verbs meaning to set something alight. This is the yellow group, the most direct connection on the board.

Separate information from the other meanings
DATA, INFO, INTEL, and NEWS all refer to information. INTEL can also suggest a company name, while NEWS may look like a standalone media category; their shared meaning is the key.
Read the landscape words as a set
DELL, GLEN, HOLLOW, and VALLEY can each describe a small, low-lying or sheltered area, often wooded. The category hinges on the terrain meanings rather than more familiar uses such as a computer brand.

Look for an interior core
APPLE, COMPUTER, PLANET, and REACTOR each have a core: a central part, whether biological, electronic, planetary, or nuclear. This less literal shared idea ties together the purple group.
