Try these clues before looking at any answers. The categories are listed from yellow to purple, matching the puzzle’s increasing difficulty.
- Yellow: An influx or deluge.
- Green: Top-level computer organization essentials.
- Blue: Items like jigs and planes.
- Purple: Phrases that sound like something played daily.
One-word reveals
If a category clue is not enough, reveal one member of each group: TIDAL WAVE for yellow, MUSIC for green, SAWS for blue, and GRANDS for purple.
How to solve the tricky groups
Watch for the computer decoy
TORRENT and DOWNLOADS may suggest file sharing, and FILES looks like it could belong with computer-related entries. But FILES is the decoy: the green set uses the computer folders DESKTOP, DOCUMENTS, DOWNLOADS, and MUSIC. Before submitting a promising set, check how the remaining words fit together; the game is designed so words can plausibly belong to more than one category.

How Connections works
Each puzzle presents 16 words to sort into four groups of four. The New York Times Help Center says, “Each puzzle has exactly one solution and is meant to be tricky by having words that could fit into multiple categories.” It describes yellow as easiest and purple as trickiest, and says editors curate words and categories using the Oxford Dictionary. For this board, the overlapping computer associations show why it helps to test a whole grouping against the words left over instead of submitting the first plausible connection. That is a practical solving approach, not a guarantee that every category will be obvious.

Play or find older puzzles
The New York Times Help Center lists Connections as playable on the web and in the app. Its archive page says puzzles dating back to June 12, 2023 are available to All Access and Games subscribers, and that a completed archived puzzle cannot be replayed.
