NYT Connections puzzle #879, dated Thursday, November 6, 2025, groups the sixteen words into cost, device-unlock methods, parts of a ship, and features of a cartoon Cupid. If you want to solve it yourself first, use the hints below before opening the full answer key.

Spoiler warning: The hints become more revealing as you go; the complete groups and answers follow.

Hints for Connections #879

  • Yellow: The total you pay; cost.
  • Green: Ways to unlock a phone or other device.
  • Blue: Elements or parts of a vessel.
  • Purple: What you might see in a valentine or cartoon Cupid image.

What are the answers for NYT Connections #879?

The four groups and their answers are:

Color Category Answers
Yellow Cost AMOUNT, FIGURE, PRICE, VALUE
Green Ways to unlock a device FACE, FINGERPRINT, PASSWORD, PIN
Blue Parts of a ship AFT, DECK, FORE, MAST
Purple Features of a cartoon Cupid ARROW, BOW, DIAPER, WINGS

Why BOW is a tempting red herring

BOW can suggest the front of a ship, so it is easy to place it with the vessel-related words. In this puzzle, however, the ship group is completed by MAST; BOW belongs with ARROW, DIAPER, and WINGS in the Cupid group. FACE and FINGERPRINT are biometric unlock methods, while PASSWORD and PIN are credentials. The cost group brings together four words for an amount or monetary worth.

How Connections works

Connections asks players to sort sixteen words or other items into four groups of four based on a shared link. The group colors are often treated as difficulty cues, generally progressing from yellow through blue and green to purple, though that order is not a guarantee. Forbes and TechRadar report that a player can make three incorrect guesses; a fourth ends the game. The guides describe Connections as playable through NYT Games, but access terms can change. Forbes’s 2025 guide says the past-puzzle archive was subscriber-accessible at that time.
