Answers for Saturday, June 21
The four category labels and word sets for game #741 are:
| Color | Category | Words |
|---|---|---|
| Yellow | Stocky | SOLID, SQUAT, STOUT, THICK |
| Green | Company | CONCERN, FIRM, HOUSE, OUTFIT |
| Blue | Apple products | BRANDY, BUTTER, CIDER, SAUCE |
| Purple | Starts of European countries | GERM, LUXE, MALT, PORT |
Why the categories are tricky
FIRM can point in two directions
FIRM can mean solid or sturdy, making it look like a fit with SOLID, SQUAT and STOUT. In the solution, it belongs with CONCERN, HOUSE and OUTFIT as a word for a company; THICK completes the stocky group.
#1 Best Overall
APPLE means the fruit, not the company
The blue words are products made from apples: brandy, butter, cider and sauce. The clue’s iPhone reference is a misdirection toward the technology company.
The purple words begin country names
GERM begins Germany, LUXE begins Luxembourg, MALT begins Malta and PORT begins Portugal. The words are shortened beginnings, not complete country names.
