Color Category Words
Yellow Ways to get food FARM, FISH, GATHER, HUNT
Green Keep apart CLOISTER, SECLUDE, SEPARATE, SILO
Blue Parts of a big rig AXLES, HITCH, TRACTOR, TRAILER
Purple Dance events plus a letter BALLY, DISCOG, PROMO, RAVEN

How the purple group works

The trickiest category combines dance-event terms with an added letter: BALLY, DISCOG, PROMO, and RAVEN. The grouping is less direct than the other three, which connect to getting food, keeping things apart, and truck components.

How Connections works and where to replay

The New York Times Help Center explains: “Players are given 16 words and must find groups of four items that share something in common.” Each group is assigned a color, with yellow the easiest and purple the trickiest; the Help Center says there is exactly one solution and that editors curate the words and categories using the Oxford Dictionary. Read the official Connections Help Center article.

The daily puzzle releases at midnight in the player’s timezone, so the date shown as “today” can vary by location. Connections is free to play through the Games app, nytimes.com/games/connections, nytimes.com/theathletic, and the News app, according to the Help Center.

To replay this 2025 puzzle, the NYT archive offers puzzles dating back to June 12, 2023, for All Access and Games subscribers. Archive eligibility and access are subject to those subscription requirements.
