How Connections: Sports Edition works
The New York Times describes Connections as a game in which you sort 16 words into four groups of four based on a shared connection. The groups are color-coded by difficulty: yellow is easiest, followed by green, blue, and purple. Words can seem to fit more than one category, but each puzzle has one solution. NYT’s Connections instructions say Sports Edition, brought to solvers by The Athletic, follows the same basic rules.

- Green: Think about the ground game.
- Blue: These are bracket terms.
- Purple: Think of a funny sports-fiction routine.

The reported yellow category contains three listed entries, not four. This preserves the group as printed in the October 31 answer report rather than guessing at an additional tile. The answer groups were reported by Mashable in a Yahoo-hosted article dated October 31, 2024.
Where to play and find older Sports Edition puzzles
The NYT Help Center lists the web, The Athletic app, and the NYT News app as places to access Sports Edition. It also says Sports Edition does not have an archive. The archive information on the same Help Center page applies to standard Connections; it should not be taken to mean that old Sports Edition puzzles are archived there.
