Here are progressive hints and the listed tile placements for the NYT Pips boards dated October 17, 2025. The year is inferred from the date-specific guide’s archive listing: the title itself gives no year, and October 17, 2026 is still in the future as of October 8, 2026. The solutions below are attributed to the Mashable Team guide published October 17, 2025, not independently verified against the game board.
Hints before you reveal the placements
Pips is a single-player, domino-inspired game in the New York Times catalogue. Its color-coded regions impose conditions on the pips shown within them. The two halves of a domino may sit in different regions, and neighboring tiles do not necessarily need matching values.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Number: the pips in that region must add to its displayed number.
- Equal: every domino half in the region must show the same value.
- Not Equal: the values in the region must differ.
- Less Than / Greater Than: the region’s pips must be strictly below or above its stated number.
- Uncolored: no condition applies.
Tiles may be placed horizontally or vertically. The guide lists tile values and orientations by region condition, but does not provide board coordinates; the entries below therefore do not identify exact grid positions.
