NYT Strands puzzle #48, published Saturday, April 20, 2024, has the theme “Walk this way.” The spangram is PEDESTRIAN; the seven theme words are SAUNTER, TRUDGE, STRUT, AMBLE, MARCH, STROLL, and TREK. Start with the hints below if you want to solve it yourself, then scroll to the spoiler-marked answer list.

Hints for Strands #48

Try these in order, stopping when you have enough to continue:

  1. The theme is “Walk this way.”
  2. Look for words describing ways to walk.
  3. The spangram clue is “On foot.”
  4. For a small nudge toward in-game hint words, try TRUTH, TUSK, STEER, GRANT, EDGE, or CLAM.

Try Hard Guides reported that Strands words can run in any direction, without reusing letters or crossing another answer. In its April 20, 2024 guide, it also says finding three non-theme words of at least four letters earns a hint revealing a theme word; the spangram describes the theme and touches opposite sides of the grid. Why these words fit the theme

“Walk this way” points to walking styles and paces. SAUNTER, AMBLE, and STROLL suggest an unhurried walk; TRUDGE and TREK evoke a more effortful journey; STRUT and MARCH describe more purposeful ways of moving. PEDESTRIAN ties the set together by referring to someone traveling on foot. TechRadar’s Marc McLaren described the connection as “words associated with walking.” TechRadar’s April 20, 2024 Strands hints and answers

A note about a conflicting answer list

One consulted guide lists CHARM where the other two answer guides give MARCH. Because Try Hard Guides and TechRadar agree on MARCH, this solution uses MARCH rather than treating the conflicting entry as settled. Fortnite Insider’s April 20, 2024 answer guide
