Hints for Strands #40
Use these in order, stopping when you have enough to continue:
- Theme clue: “You can say that again!”
- Gentle hint: Look for words made from a repeated letter sequence or syllable.
- Stronger hint: The spangram names the broader idea behind that pattern: REPETITION.
Spoilers: April 12, 2024 Strands answers
The spangram is REPETITION. The other theme words are CANCAN, COUSCOUS, GOGO, MAMA, MURMUR, POMPOM, and TUTU.
Each theme answer repeats a letter pattern or syllable, while REPETITION describes the shared pattern. Forbes gives the clue and solution list; Try Hard Guides and WordsRated independently list the same date and answers.

In the general gameplay described by the April 2024 guides, Strands uses a six-by-eight letter grid. Trace letters vertically, horizontally, or diagonally, changing direction as needed to spell a word. Find the theme words and the spangram, which connects opposite sides of the board.
If you are stuck, finding three valid non-theme words of at least four letters unlocks an in-game hint highlighting the letters of one theme answer. That is a general game mechanic, not a feature unique to puzzle #40.
