Phainon is a 5-star Physical character on the Path of Destruction in Honkai: Star Rail. HoYoverse’s Version 3.4 update notes give that official classification.
Phainon’s official Path and element
HoYoverse lists Phainon as “5-Star Character Phainon (Destruction: Physical)” in the Version 3.4 update notes. In other words, his Path is Destruction and his combat element is Physical.
What the 3.4 reveal said about his gameplay
In its June 20, 2025 Version 3.4 announcement, HoYoverse described Phainon as accumulating Coreflames before using his Ultimate to transform and create a Territory. The July 1 update notes add that he deals damage and implants Physical Weakness while the Territory is active. These are the developer’s descriptions of his kit, not an independent assessment of its strength.
The update notes also say that Phainon’s Technique increases the team’s Technique Point limit during exploration and can instantly defeat normal enemies. These details distinguish his exploration utility from his combat classification: Destruction is his Path, while Physical is his element.
