What is the July 14, 2024 Strands spangram?

The spangram is HOMOPHONES.

What are the Strands answers for July 14?

The eight theme words are:

  • ATOM
  • FILL
  • GALE
  • HAIRY
  • MERRY
  • PEAT
  • RUSTLE
  • WHINNY

Why is the theme “Say my name”?

Each answer is intended to sound like a name: the theme points to homophones, words that sound alike. The pairings are not necessarily identical for every speaker. One reader discussion raised whether ATOM/Adam and HAIRY/Harry sound alike in their accent; that is an individual pronunciation concern, not evidence of a general rule across English speakers. See the reader discussion.

How Strands hints work

According to WordHint’s secondary guide, Strands uses a 6×8 grid of letters, and players trace theme words without reusing letters. The guide says a spangram spans two opposite sides of the board and that finding three non-theme words of at least four letters earns a hint. These mechanics are described by a secondary source; an official NYT rules page for this puzzle was not located.

WordHint lists these optional words as accepted hint-finding words for this grid: AERO, EYES, FERN, GAME, HATE, IRON, LAME, LANE, LASH, LAST, LEFT, and LEST. They are not theme answers.

Keep the date straight

This answer set is for Sunday, July 14, 2024, game #133—not another Strands puzzle published on July 14 in a different year. The date and answer list are corroborated by WordHint, StrandsAnswers.com, and TechRadar’s July 15 archive entry, which records the previous game’s answers.
