The spangram and five remaining theme words are:
- Spangram: HISTORICSHIPS (often written as “Historic Ships”)
- MAYFLOWER
- BOUNTY
- BEAGLE
- TITANIC
- VICTORY
The two contemporary guides consulted identify the theme as historic or famous vessels. They do not provide a reliable transcription of the words’ letter paths, so no board coordinates are included.
How Strands works
In the how-to-play descriptions published by Forbes and Parade, Strands is a daily word-search-style puzzle played on a six-by-eight grid. Players connect letters to find words related to the theme, then find a spangram that describes the theme and connects opposite sides of the board. The guides say theme words and the spangram receive different highlight colors.
Those guides also describe hints as being earned by finding three valid words that are not theme answers; a hint reveals letters from a theme word. These mechanics are reported by the guides rather than verified here against an official New York Times rules page.
