Progressive hints
- The theme words describe the feel or intensity of hot weather.
- First-two-letter prompts for the five theme words: SC, BA, MU, ST, SW.
- The spangram begins with SU, is 13 letters long without its space, and runs mostly vertically. Its route starts at the top edge in column six and ends at the bottom edge in column one.
Words that earn in-game hints
TechRadar lists SMUG, COMMA, SINGER, CORE, RELATE, and TRAIN as clue words that can earn in-game hints. In Strands, finding three non-theme words earns a hint that reveals letters in a theme word; if a hint is already active, it reveals that word’s letter order.

How Strands works
Theme words fill the board without overlapping and remain highlighted in blue. Players drag or tap letters to form words; when tapping, double-tap the final letter to submit. The spangram describes the theme, touches two opposite sides of the board, and highlights yellow.
