How Strands hints work
Parade relays the New York Times’ gameplay instructions this way: find the theme words to fill the board; make words by dragging or tapping letters, and double-tap the final letter to submit when tapping. Theme words highlight blue and do not overlap. The spangram describes the theme, touches two opposite sides, and highlights yellow. Finding three non-theme words earns a hint that reveals letters from a theme word.

Why this is the city-nickname puzzle
The date-matched answer guides from TechRadar and Parade agree on puzzle #613, the “___ City” clue, NICKNAME, and the six-word list. Forbes’ matching guide gives a conflicting theme label, “The butterfly effect”; the actual clue and answer set support city nicknames instead. These are secondary guides rather than the original puzzle archive.
