How Strands hints work
In Strands, players connect adjacent letters in any direction, including diagonally, to make theme words. Find three valid words that are not part of the theme to unlock a hint revealing the letters of a theme answer. The spangram describes the theme and touches at least two sides of the grid. These mechanics and play locations were described in a December 2025 Forbes guide; current availability may differ. Forbes said the game could be played on the NYT website and in the NYT Games app.
