How Strands hints work

Parade’s November 2, 2024 guide attributes these gameplay instructions to The New York Times: theme words fill the board without overlapping, and found theme words stay highlighted in blue. Players can drag or tap letters to form a word; players using taps submit by double-tapping the final letter. The spangram describes the theme, touches two opposite sides of the board, and turns yellow when found.

Finding three non-theme words earns one hint. The first hint reveals the letters of a theme word; if a hint is already active, the next hint puts those letters in their correct order. These rules are reported by Parade and are not independently verified against the NYT game page here. Read Parade’s dated guide.
