The exchange was not confirmed as an authorized announcement, and its date was one day early: Xbox officially launched the game on April 22, 2025, with Game Pass availability on day one.
What did the reported Xbox Support message claim?
In April 2025, a user named Raven shared screenshots and a video that appeared to show an Xbox Support conversation. The purported agent said Oblivion Remastered would launch April 21 and be available on Game Pass from day one. TechSpot’s April 17 report questioned the exchange’s authenticity and said it was unclear whether a person or an AI had generated the response. GamesRadar+’s April 16 report likewise noted uncertainty about bot involvement and conflicting messages about included content.
Those reports document an apparent support reply, not an official Xbox announcement. The available accounts do not establish that the exchange was authorized or conclusively identify its author.
When did Oblivion Remastered actually release?
Xbox’s official launch announcement gave the date as April 22, 2025. The game launched that day on Xbox Series X|S, PC through Steam and the Xbox app, cloud, and PlayStation 5. The April 21 support-message date was therefore a day early. Xbox Wire’s April 22 announcement is the confirmed date and platform source.

Was Oblivion Remastered on Game Pass at launch?
Yes. Xbox confirmed the game was available with Game Pass on launch day, April 22, 2025. The launch announcement also says the game supports Xbox Play Anywhere and includes the Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles expansions. That confirms day-one availability; it does not, by itself, establish current membership-tier eligibility or catalog availability in every region, so check the current Game Pass listing for those details.
Where can you play it now?
As of October 8, 2026, Bethesda lists Oblivion Remastered for Xbox, PC, Steam, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2. The Switch 2 version launched August 11, 2026. Bethesda describes the remaster as a collaboration with Virtuos, with a visual overhaul using Unreal Engine 5 alongside interface and quality-of-life refinements. Bethesda’s game page lists the title and platforms; its Switch 2 announcement confirms that version’s release date.

What physical editions are available?
Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 Physical Deluxe Edition
Bethesda announced a limited Physical Deluxe Edition for Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 on October 13, 2025. It includes a disc that grants access to the base game, an additional download, and a code for digital extras. Bethesda listed availability in North America, South America, and Europe at launch and directed buyers to regional retailers. The release is limited, so current retailer stock should be checked directly; the disc edition also requires a download. Bethesda’s edition announcement gives the contents and regions.
Nintendo Switch 2 cartridge edition
Bethesda’s Switch 2 announcement describes a physical Deluxe Edition with a cartridge containing the full base game, as well as a digital edition. This is a separate release from the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 disc edition.

Why was the remaster notable beyond its release date?
Bethesda and Virtuos rebuilt the game’s presentation with Unreal Engine 5 and refined its interface and quality-of-life features while retaining the original adventure and its two expansions. In Bethesda’s extended look, Virtuos Executive Producer Alex Murphy described it as: “Oblivion is the heart and soul of the Remaster.” Bethesda’s extended-look article outlines the collaboration and visual work.
Tim Lamb, Lead Creative Producer at Bethesda Game Studios, reflected on the original and remaster in Bethesda’s beginner guide: “When I look at Oblivion – the original and now with the Remaster – there’s an authenticity to it. A purity. This game laid the framework for everything we’ve done since 2005. I see everything we’ve improved over the years. So, I feel the 20 years, but it also feels like the blink of an eye.” Bethesda’s beginner guide includes the quote and launch-era guidance.
