What Security does
Bethesda Support defines the skill this way: “Security: Governs lockpicking and disarming traps.” Using skills increases them and contributes to character leveling. When the level-up indicator appears, sleeping applies the character level, according to Bethesda Support’s leveling guidance.

How the reported Security exploit works
PC Gamer’s April 25, 2025 guide describes using already-set tumblers in a lockpicking interface. Its reported steps are:
- Go to the Imperial City Market District at night.
- Try to pick a shop door lock.
- Look for tumblers that are already set; the guide describes these as darker than the others.
- Position the lockpick beneath one of those tumblers and repeatedly press the control that sets a tumbler.
- Exit the lockpicking interface to check experience progress. PC Gamer says the XP meter may not visibly update while the interface is open.

PC Gamer reports that the exploit can take Security to 100 in about five minutes. Treat that as the guide’s approximate result, not a measured benchmark, official figure, or guaranteed outcome. The sources cited here do not establish whether it works on every platform or in the current game build.

No. The walkthrough is dated April 25, 2025, and the available sources do not verify the trick’s current operation across platforms or builds. Bethesda’s news listing includes a September 17, 2026 notice about a Nintendo Switch 2 patch for crashes and gameplay issues, but that notice does not mention this exploit. Bethesda also published Update 1.2; the surfaced update information does not say whether the Security trick was changed.
