Nintendo’s retrospective describes memory and data-fit challenges during the original Ocarina of Time’s development. Nothing in the available sources connects those constraints to voice acting in the Switch 2 remake. September 2026 footage reporting describes several characters speaking, while Link remains silent.
What the remake has confirmed so far
Nintendo has announced The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Nintendo Switch 2, and its product page identifies it as a Switch 2 exclusive. Nintendo also describes a microphone-based gameplay feature: players can play or hum a learned ocarina melody within range of the system’s built-in microphone, and Link performs that song in the game. That interaction is separate from spoken dialogue; it does not, by itself, confirm anything about the remake’s voice acting.

What the footage reportedly adds
A September 8, 2026 GamesRadar report describes revealed footage in which Zelda, Saria, Princess Ruto, Darunia, and Ganondorf have voiced dialogue, while Link remains silent. The report said the voice cast had not been revealed at the time of publication. This is a dated account of the footage, not confirmation that every scene is voiced or that the listed characters represent the full cast.
The original N64 development challenge
Nintendo’s Iwata Asks retrospective discusses the original game’s development for Nintendo 64 and the planned 64DD. It describes design considerations around movement and data patterns, including the challenge of fitting them into memory. That is useful historical context for the pressures facing the N64-era game, but it is not evidence that voice acting was impossible on the original system.

Does the old memory constraint hinder remake voice acting?
No connection is established. The retrospective concerns historical development choices; it does not say N64 memory limits prevent or complicate adding dialogue in a Switch 2 remake. The footage report describes what viewers heard, but does not attribute any current voice-acting decision to the original hardware’s constraints. Treating the N64 issue as a present technical obstacle would go beyond what these sources support.
The meaningful comparison is narrower: the original team had to consider how game data fit the N64 and contemplated 64DD, while the remake is being presented for Switch 2 with a microphone-driven ocarina feature and, according to reported footage, some spoken character dialogue. The available sources do not provide comparable storage figures, so they cannot support a capacity-based technical comparison.
