Ohsnap’s MCON is no longer just an announced Kickstarter project. The compact controller is now listed for sale by Ohsnap, with a $149.99 list price and a displayed $129.99 sale price for the selected configuration when checked on August 18, 2026. It attaches magnetically to compatible phones or cases, slides open into a handheld controller, and can also support tabletop play.
Its unusual folding design is aimed at gamers who value portability and quick setup. The trade-off is a premium price, the need for a suitable magnetic attachment in some setups, no phone-charging function, and compatibility that still depends on individual games and apps.

What is the Ohsnap MCON?
MCON is a compact smartphone game controller designed to stay attached to a compatible phone or case while folding into a smaller, more pocketable shape. Instead of using a conventional telescoping arm or clamp, it uses MagSafe-style magnetic mounting and a sliding “quick launch” mechanism.
Sliding the controller open deploys its controls and fold-out grips. Ohsnap says the closed configuration protects the controls and triggers automatic wake and sleep behavior. The controller is marketed for handheld mobile gaming, cloud gaming, remote play, emulation, PC use and, with the appropriate connection mode, Nintendo Switch use.

Ohsnap’s descriptions of “console-grade” gameplay, anti-stick-drift performance and similar capabilities are manufacturer claims, not independent test results.
From a 2024 announcement to a retail product
Ohsnap originally announced MCON on December 11, 2024. That announcement described a Bluetooth controller for MagSafe-equipped smartphones, with a Kickstarter launch planned for January 2, 2025, and a CES 2025 appearance, including a PEPCOM demonstration scheduled for January 6. The announcement-era details are documented by BetaNews.
That timeline should now be treated as historical. Ohsnap currently lists MCON in its online store as a commercially available product. Later coverage reported that the Kickstarter campaign raised more than $1.5 million, while AndroidGuys reported more than $1.7 million and over 16,000 backers. Because published totals differ, neither figure should be treated as a single definitive campaign result.

How the magnetic design works
MCON attaches to MagSafe-equipped iPhones and cases, as well as PixelSnap phones and cases listed by Ohsnap. The package also includes an adapter intended to support non-MagSafe Android phones and some ordinary cases.
That does not mean every phone attaches magnetically with no preparation. Stability can depend on the phone’s size, the strength and position of a magnetic ring, the case’s thickness and surface, and whether the magnets are properly aligned. A thick, uneven or poorly positioned case may make the connection less secure.

Ohsnap also describes an adjustable magnetic puck that accommodates different phone sizes and can permit portrait orientation. Magnetic attachment should not be confused with wireless charging or power sharing: MCON does not charge the phone. The phone can charge MCON through USB-C, according to Ohsnap’s product information.
There is also a practical handling warning. Ohsnap’s MCON tutorial cautions that activating the controller while it is tilted downward can cause the phone to eject because gravity works against the magnetic connection while the spring mechanism deploys.

In its handheld configuration, MCON uses deployable grips and full-size controls. In Kickback Mode, the phone can be removed from the controller assembly and propped up with the integrated kickstand while MCON operates as a separate wireless gamepad.
That makes the design useful for desk, table or airplane-tray gaming, and can reduce the hand fatigue associated with holding both a phone and controller for a long session. It can also suit players who connect their phone to a larger display, although Ohsnap’s dock and Key Cast accessories may be relevant to that setup.
Controls and connection modes
Ohsnap lists the following hardware:
- Full-size TMR joysticks marketed as GameSir Mag-Res joysticks.
- Hall-effect analog triggers.
- Tactile face buttons.
- A built-in gyroscope for motion input.
- Deployable grips.
- Automatic wake and sleep behavior when the controller is closed.
The controller supports several input profiles:
- X-Input: the default mode and a common choice for PC and Xbox-style mappings.
- DS4: useful for PlayStation-oriented software and remote-play scenarios.
- NS: Nintendo Switch mode.
- D-Input: a generic input mode used by some older or less conventional applications.
- Bluetooth: wireless connection without a cable.
- 2.4GHz: used with the MCON Dock or Key Cast.
- Wired USB-C: supported on iOS, Android, Windows and Mac.
Ohsnap lists Bluetooth 5.4, a maximum stated range of 10 metres and a Bluetooth Low Energy polling rate of 125Hz. It lists wired polling at 1,000Hz and 2.4GHz polling from 250Hz to 1,000Hz. These are manufacturer specifications rather than independent measurements, and a higher polling rate will not automatically create a visibly better experience in every mobile game.

Phones, platforms and games
According to Ohsnap, MCON works with MagSafe and PixelSnap phones and cases, with non-MagSafe devices supported through the included adapter. It is also listed for iOS, Android, PC, Mac and Nintendo Switch.
Ohsnap names support for mobile games with controller input, Steam Link, PlayStation Remote Play, GeForce Now, Xbox cloud or remote-play services and emulators. However, device compatibility is not the same as game compatibility. A phone can recognize the controller while a particular game ignores it.
Before buying, check whether the games you actually play support physical controllers. Compatibility can also depend on the operating system, the selected input profile and whether the app expects Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo or generic mappings. Cloud-gaming and remote-play clients may require a different mode from native mobile games.
Specifications and battery claims
Ohsnap publishes these specifications:
| Specification | Ohsnap’s published figure |
|---|---|
| Dimensions | 144.1 × 69.4 × 24.1 mm |
| Weight | 197g |
| Battery | 500mAh lithium-ion |
| Continuous use | Up to 9 hours |
| Standby | Up to 1.8 years |
| Bluetooth | Version 5.4 |
| Stated wireless range | Up to 10 metres |
| Phone charging | No |
The nine-hour figure is a maximum manufacturer estimate, not a guaranteed runtime. Actual battery life can vary with connection type, polling rate, gyroscope and vibration use, and the behavior of the connected phone. Wired play is the more predictable option for especially long sessions.

Bundle options include items such as the MCON Travel Sleeve, MCON Dock, Key Cast, a 35W wall adapter, USB-C cable and HDMI cable. Not every accessory is necessary. The controller alone is the sensible starting point for handheld play; the Dock or Key Cast becomes more relevant for 2.4GHz or big-screen use.
Important limitations
- It does not charge your phone. MCON’s battery powers the controller only.
- Magnetic stability is setup-dependent. Cases and adapters with weak or misaligned rings may be unreliable, especially during the launch motion.
- Bluetooth is not the fastest listed mode. Ohsnap’s published 125Hz Bluetooth figure is below its wired and some 2.4GHz figures.
- Mac users may need an accessory. Ohsnap recommends Key Cast for the best Mac experience and says it helps address moderate Mac latency. That is a manufacturer recommendation, not a guarantee for every Mac setup.
- Some features add cost. A complete TV or living-room setup may require the Dock, Key Cast, cables and power accessories.
- The folding mechanism adds complexity. It is the reason MCON can be compact, but it also introduces more moving parts than a basic wired or clamp controller.
- Independent testing is limited in the available material. Ohsnap’s specifications do not independently establish real-world latency, battery life, long-term stick-drift resistance, comfort or folding-mechanism durability.
Who should buy MCON?
MCON is most compelling for MagSafe iPhone owners, compatible Android users and cloud-gaming players who care more about pocketability and fast setup than maximum grip size. It is also a strong conceptual fit for people who alternate between handheld and tabletop play, or who want one controller that can switch among mobile, PC, remote-play and emulator use.
It is less attractive for buyers seeking the cheapest mobile controller, players who need large permanently attached grips for long sessions, or anyone expecting a controller to charge the phone. It is also a poor choice for gamers whose favorite mobile titles do not support physical controls, regardless of whether the phone can pair successfully.
Alternatives to investigate
MCON’s main advantage is its folding magnetic form, so the closest alternative depends on which compromise matters most:
- Backbone One uses a familiar telescoping phone-mounted design and may suit buyers who prefer a conventional mobile-controller ecosystem.
- Razer Kishi V3 is a clamp-style option for users who want direct physical support around the phone.
- GameSir G8 Galileo is aimed more at large-grip comfort than pocketability.
- SCUF Nomad is a separate Bluetooth-controller approach for iPhone users.
- 8BitDo controllers suit buyers who want a standalone gamepad for multiple devices and do not need the phone physically mounted between the controls.
Alternative pricing, stock and current firmware support were not independently verified here, so check each manufacturer’s current product page before comparing total cost.
