Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThe exact error may say “The program can’t start because oki24res.dll is missing from your computer,” “oki24res.dll was not found,” or “oki24res.dll could not be loaded.” The file oki24res.dll is an old Windows printer-driver resource identified as “OKI 24 pin driver,” so the safest fix is usually to restore the complete printer-driver package rather than download the DLL separately.
Which fix applies to you
Start with the symptom that best matches your situation:
- The error appears while printing, installing a printer, or starting the Print Spooler: reinstall the affected printer and its complete driver package.
- The problem began after upgrading Windows or moving from an older computer: install a compatible driver for the printer and your Windows architecture.
- The error appears when launching an application that is not related to printing: repair or reinstall that application first.
- Several Windows components are failing, or the problem began after an interrupted update: run DISM and SFC.
- Windows Security recently quarantined the file: inspect Protection History, but do not restore an isolated DLL until its source and signature are verified.
- The printer is old and no compatible driver is available: remove the obsolete package and use a compatible inbox, network, or IP-based printer driver if the device supports one.
- The error continues after all repairs: use System Restore or, on supported Windows 11 systems, the Windows Update reinstall option.
Do not begin by copying oki24res.dll into System32 or SysWOW64. That can place the wrong architecture or an altered file on the computer while leaving the damaged printer package unresolved.
What is oki24res.dll?
oki24res.dll is associated with older Microsoft Windows printer-driver components. Its reported description is OKI 24 pin driver, referring to printer resources used by older OKI or compatible 24-pin printer packages.

It is not normally a Visual C++ Redistributable, DirectX, .NET, or general-purpose application runtime file. It may be described in historical metadata as part of the Microsoft Windows Operating System, but available records relate mainly to older Windows releases. They do not establish that every current Windows 10 or Windows 11 installation contains this file.
Windows printer packages can include resource DLLs, configuration files, GPD or PPD files, and other components. Windows normally stages these files as a package in the Driver Store rather than treating each DLL as an independent download. Microsoft documents the Driver Store and printer-driver package process in its Driver Store documentation and printer-driver package installation guide.
Historical databases also show different copies associated with different Windows eras and architectures. Those records should not be treated as interchangeable versions. A file that appears to match by name may still be wrong for the printer, application, Windows release, or processor architecture.
Identify what is requesting the file
Before repairing anything, identify the program or printer that calls oki24res.dll.
If the message appears during printing
Note the following:
- Which printer is selected.
- Whether the error appears when printing a test page or only from one application.
- Whether the printer is connected by USB, network, or an old port.
- Whether the error began after removing or reinstalling the printer.
- Whether the print queue becomes stuck or the Print Spooler stops.
If only one printer causes the message, treat the printer driver as the primary suspect.
If the message appears when launching an application
Look at the title bar and the executable named in the message. If the program is unrelated to printing, its installation may contain an obsolete or incorrect dependency reference.
Use the application’s repair function or reinstall it before changing Windows printer components. Do not assume that a file named like a Windows component must be restored globally.
If it appears during Windows startup
Open Task Manager with Ctrl + Shift + Esc, select Startup apps, and look for an old printer utility or application associated with the error. You can also check Settings > Apps > Installed apps for recently removed printer software or utilities.

Do not delete unknown startup entries solely because their names are unfamiliar. First identify the publisher and installation path.
Fix 1: Reinstall the complete printer package
This is the most likely solution when the error occurs during printing, printer setup, or spooler activity.

Remove the affected printer
In Windows 11:
- Open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Select the affected printer.
- Choose Remove and confirm.
In Windows 10:
- Open Settings.
- Select Devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Select the printer.
- Choose Remove device.
If the printer is no longer listed, continue with the driver removal steps below.
Remove the old driver package
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
printui.exe /s /t2. - Press Enter.
- Select the Drivers tab.
- Highlight the old printer driver.
- Select Remove.
- Choose Remove driver and driver package when Windows offers that option.
- Restart the computer.
Only remove a package you recognize as belonging to the affected or obsolete printer. Removing a shared driver can affect other printers using the same package.
If the driver is in use, clear pending print jobs first:
- Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select the printer.
- Open the print queue.
- Cancel every pending job.
- Restart Windows.
- Repeat the driver-removal process.
Install the correct package
Use this order:
- Open Settings > Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Open Advanced options > Optional updates if available.
- Check for printer or driver updates.
- Install the package that matches the exact printer model.
- Restart Windows.
- Add the printer again under Printers & scanners.
If Windows Update does not provide a suitable package, use the printer manufacturer’s official support channel or the Microsoft Update Catalog. Search for the exact printer model and select a package matching your Windows version and architecture.
Do not install a driver merely because it contains the word OKI. Confirm the model, connection type, and supported Windows release.
Verify the result
Print a Windows test page:
- Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select the printer.
- Open Printer properties.
- Select Print Test Page.
The repair worked if the test page prints without the DLL message and the queue remains operational after restarting Windows.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?
A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11Outbyte Driver Updater can reduce the work of hunting through multiple driver packages and guessing which device driver is stale; its free scan shows what it finds, while driver installation is done by the full version. It is optional, and the official printer package remains the preferred source for a model-specific repair.
Fix 2: Check Device Manager and remove a broken printer driver
Device Manager can reveal whether Windows still sees an incomplete printer installation.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Print queues.
- Expand Printers if that category is present.
- Look for the affected printer, an unknown device, or a warning icon.
- Right-click the relevant entry and select Properties.
- Read the Device status message on the General tab.
- Open the Driver tab and note the provider, date, and version shown.
- If the device is clearly the affected printer, select Uninstall Device.
- Enable Attempt to remove the driver for this device if Windows displays that option.
- Restart the computer.
- Install the complete driver package again.
Device Manager may show a printer without a warning even when a resource file is missing. In that case, continue with the package reinstall rather than repeatedly uninstalling the device.
For a USB printer, disconnect it during removal and reconnect it only when the installer requests it. For a network printer, confirm that the printer’s address or hostname is still reachable before reinstalling.

Fix 3: Repair the application if printing is not involved
If oki24res.dll appears when launching a game, business application, or utility unrelated to your printer, reinstalling a printer driver may not address the actual problem.

- WIRELESS CONNECTIVITY: Print from almost anywhere in your workspace using your compatible mobile device.
- PAPER CAPACITY: Up to 150 sheets.

Use Windows app repair
For a supported Windows application:
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Find the program named in the error.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Advanced options.
- Select Repair.
- Start the application again.
If Repair is unavailable or does not help, select Reset only if you understand that it may remove the application’s local settings. Otherwise, uninstall and reinstall the program from its official installer or launcher.
For a game, use the launcher’s file-verification feature if it provides one. If the launcher reports missing or damaged files, allow it to restore the complete installation. Do not substitute a DLL downloaded separately.
This distinction matters because a successful SFC scan does not prove that an application’s private copy or dependency reference is healthy.
Fix 4: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
Use this step when several Windows features are failing, the issue followed an interrupted update, or the printer problem appears to involve Windows itself.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC.
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes if User Account Control appears.
- Run this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for DISM to finish.
- Keep the elevated window open.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the printer or application again.
DISM repairs the Windows component store. SFC checks protected Windows files and replaces damaged copies when a valid source is available. Follow Microsoft’s System File Checker and DISM procedure.
Outbyte PC Repair can make the manual process less uncertain by showing what its free scan finds instead of having you repeat SFC and DISM without knowing what changed; repairs are performed by the full version. It is optional, and it does not replace reinstalling a damaged printer or application package.
Understand the result
- “Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations” means SFC found no protected Windows-file problem. The missing file may belong to a printer package or application instead.
- “Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them” means Windows repaired protected files. Restart and test again.
- SFC found corrupt files but could not repair some of them: run DISM again, restart, and repeat SFC once. If it still fails, inspect the CBS log or move to System Restore or Windows repair.
- DISM cannot find source files: install pending updates and retry. If the issue remains, use an appropriate Windows recovery method rather than downloading an isolated DLL.
Fix 5: Check Windows Features only when printing components are disabled
Some printer functions depend on optional Windows components. Enabling unrelated features will not recreate an old driver resource, so use this check only if Windows printing components are missing or disabled.

optionalfeatures. - Press Enter.
- Expand Print and Document Services if it is listed.
- Review the available printing components.
- Enable only a feature required by your printer or organization.
- Select OK.
- Restart Windows if requested.
On some systems, the available feature names differ. Do not enable legacy features simply because they sound related to printing. If the printer manufacturer’s instructions require a particular Windows component, follow those instructions and then reinstall the printer package.
Fix 6: Check antivirus quarantine safely
A security product may quarantine a legitimate old driver resource, or it may correctly block a modified file. The filename alone does not prove which situation occurred.
In Windows Security:
- Open Start.
- Type Windows Security.
- Open the app.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review entries related to
oki24res.dll, the printer package, or the application that reports the error. - Open an entry to inspect its detection name and original location.
Do not select Restore or Allow on device merely because the file name is familiar. Check whether the file was located inside a legitimate printer-driver package and whether its digital signature is valid. The safer approach is usually to reinstall the complete signed package from Windows Update, Microsoft Update Catalog, or the printer manufacturer.
Microsoft explains this process in its Protection History guidance.

Use System Restore when the problem began immediately after a driver installation, Windows update, cleanup utility, or other system change.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Select a restore point created before the error began.
- Review the affected programs and drivers.
- Start the restore.
- Let Windows restart and complete the process.
System Restore rolls back system files and settings, not personal documents. Microsoft describes this and other recovery choices in its Windows recovery options.
On Windows 11, you may also have this option:
- Open Settings.
- Select System.
- Select Recovery.
- Find Fix problems using Windows Update.
- Select Reinstall now if available.
- Follow the prompts.
This reinstalls the same Windows version while preserving apps, files, and settings. Availability depends on the Windows installation.
Architecture and compatibility checks
A 32-bit application may need a 32-bit printer component even when Windows itself is 64-bit. Do not choose a DLL or driver based only on the operating system’s name.
To check Windows architecture:
- Open Settings.
- Select System.
- Select About.
- Read System type.
The installer and driver package should determine the correct file location. On 64-bit Windows, compatibility files may be redirected to SysWOW64; the presence of System32 in an error or path does not automatically mean that a 64-bit replacement is required.
Historical records list different oki24res.dll sizes and Windows-era associations. Do not treat those entries as universal versions or use them to choose a replacement manually.
Why regsvr32 usually does not fix this error
Do not run:
regsvr32 oki24res.dll
unless the printer-driver documentation specifically says that the DLL is a self-registering component.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Microsoft’s regsvr32 documentation applies to DLLs that expose a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer. A printer resource DLL is not automatically self-registering. If it lacks the required entry point, regsvr32 may report that the entry point was not found, and a successful registration would still not reconstruct the missing driver package.
Why manual DLL downloads are unsafe
Avoid websites offering a standalone oki24res.dll download. A random copy may be:

An old 24-pin printer may have no current package for Windows 10 or Windows 11. In that case:
- Identify the exact printer model.
- Check whether Windows offers an inbox driver.
- Try adding it by IP address if it supports network printing.
- Test a compatible generic printer driver only when the device documentation supports it.
- Keep the old printer on a supported older system if modern Windows cannot communicate with it.
- Remove failed legacy packages instead of repeatedly copying individual DLLs.
A generic driver may provide basic printing but may not support every printer feature. If no compatible driver exists, replacing the printer may be more reliable than forcing an unverified legacy component into Windows.
Prevention
- Keep Windows updated before reinstalling a printer.
- Save the exact printer model and connection details.
- Remove old printer packages through Windows rather than deleting files from DriverStore.
- Use the manufacturer’s complete installer or Windows’ staged driver package.
- Do not use registry cleaners or DLL download sites to repair printer errors.
- Keep application installers available for programs that depend on private legacy components.
- If antivirus quarantines a driver, verify the package before allowing anything back.
FAQ
Is oki24res.dll a normal Windows system DLL?
It is associated with an older Windows printer-driver component, but that does not mean every current Windows installation should contain it. Historical records are not proof of a universal Windows 10 or Windows 11 copy.
Should I install Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET?
Usually not. The file is identified as a printer-driver resource, not a general runtime library. Repair the printer package or the application that reports the error.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Which printer installed it?
The filename alone does not identify a specific printer model. It is associated with old OKI 24-pin printer resources, but the exact package must be determined from the installed printer, driver properties, or the error’s originating program.
Will SFC repair it?
Only if Windows recognizes the file as a protected Windows component and has a valid replacement source. If SFC succeeds but the error remains, repair the printer package or application instead.
Can I copy it from another computer?
No. The other computer may have a different Windows release, architecture, printer package, or historical version. Install the complete matching package.
Why does regsvr32 say the entry point is missing?
The DLL may not support self-registration. That message does not indicate that the printer driver has been repaired.
Recommended Free Tools
What if the error started after removing a printer?
The removal may have left an incomplete application or driver reference. Remove the stale driver package, restart Windows, and reinstall the correct printer package if the device is still needed. If the printer is gone, repair or uninstall the program that still requests the file.
