That does not mean every Windows 10 or Windows 11 computer should contain it. The file may be present only when an older printer or printer utility has installed the relevant driver package.

The file is not identified as a Visual C++ runtime, DirectX component, .NET assembly, or general Windows API library. A missing-file message naming it normally points to a damaged, incomplete, obsolete, or incorrectly removed printer-driver package.

Why does Windows say oksidm9.dll is missing?
Common causes include:
- An old printer driver was only partially installed.
- A printer was removed incorrectly.
- A driver update failed.
- Windows system components are damaged.
- Security software quarantined the file.
- An old utility still expects a printer driver that is no longer installed.
- Someone manually deleted the file.
- A legacy driver is incompatible with the current Windows architecture.
The message may appear as:

Fix oksidm9.dll errors in the correct order
1. Identify the printer or program that needs the file
Before changing system folders, determine which component is requesting oksidm9.dll.
Check installed printers
On Windows 11:
- Open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Review the installed printers.
- Select any old, disconnected, or duplicate printer.
- Note its manufacturer and model.
On Windows 10:
- Open Settings.
- Select Devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Review the installed printers and related software.
Also check:
- Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Devices and Printers
- Task Manager > Startup apps
- The affected program’s installation folder
- Settings > Apps > Installed apps on Windows 11
- Settings > Apps > Apps & features on Windows 10
If the error appears only when launching an old printer utility, the utility may contain a stale reference to a driver that is no longer installed. If printing still works, do not replace system files immediately. Remove the obsolete startup entry or repair the related printer software instead.
Check the error path
If the message provides a path, record it before closing the error. A file requested from a printer-driver directory or Driver Store location is more consistent with a driver problem than a file requested from a game or application folder.
Windows stores driver packages in managed locations including %windir%inf and %windir%System32DriverStoreFileRepository. The exact folder varies by Windows release, architecture, language, and package revision. Do not manually edit those folders.
2. Remove and reinstall the affected printer
This is the most likely fix because oksidm9.dll is a printer-driver component.
Windows 11
- Open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Select the affected printer.
- Select Remove.
- Confirm the removal.
- Restart Windows.
- Return to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select Add device.
- Allow Windows to search for the printer.
- Install the driver offered by Windows Update when it matches the printer.
- Print a test page.
Windows 10
- Open Settings.
- Select Devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Select the affected printer.
- Select Remove device.
- Confirm the removal.
- Restart Windows.
- Return to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select Add a printer or scanner.
- Install the matching driver offered by Windows.
- Print a test page.
If Windows cannot find the printer, install the exact driver package supplied by the printer manufacturer for the model and Windows version. Do not assume that a generic package for the same brand contains oksidm9.dll or supports the same printer family.

For an older OKI or SIDM printer, identify the exact model before installing anything. A driver for a similar-looking model may use a different architecture, INF file, or set of supporting files.
Microsoft describes printer installation as a package operation involving an INF file, driver files, catalog metadata, and the Driver Store. Reinstalling the package restores those relationships; copying one DLL does not.

Manually comparing printer models, Windows architectures, and old driver packages can involve hunting through several versions and guessing which driver is stale. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers and show what needs attention; its free scan identifies the issue, while driver installation through the full version is optional and not required for this repair.
Restart the Print Spooler if installation fails
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
services.msc. - Press Enter.
- Find Print Spooler.
- Right-click it and select Restart.
- Try adding the printer again.
If restarting does not help:
- Right-click Print Spooler.
- Select Properties.
- Set Startup type to Automatic.
- Select Stop, wait briefly, then select Start.
- Select Apply and OK.
If the printer remains listed but cannot be removed, restart Windows and try again. Do not delete random files from the Driver Store.
3. Check Device Manager for a damaged printer driver
Device Manager can reveal whether Windows sees a driver problem, although it may not display the filename directly.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Printers.
- Also expand Print queues.
- Look for a yellow warning icon, an unknown device, or a duplicate printer.
- Right-click the affected device.
- Select Properties.
- Check the General tab for a device status message.
- Open the Driver tab and note the provider, date, and version.
- Select Update Driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
If Windows cannot find a suitable driver:
- Return to the device’s Driver tab.
- Select Uninstall Device.
- If Windows offers to remove the driver package, select that option only when you have confirmed the device and package are obsolete.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall the printer through Printers & scanners.
Do not install a 32-bit driver on a 64-bit Windows installation simply because its filename matches. The complete driver package must match the operating system and printer architecture. An old Vista or XP driver may also be unsuitable for Windows 10 or Windows 11.
4. Repair Windows with DISM and SFC
Use this step when:
- More than one Windows component is failing.
- The problem began after an interrupted update.
- The printer package repeatedly becomes corrupted.
- Windows reports damaged system files.
- Reinstalling the printer does not restore the file.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before System File Checker.
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes if User Account Control appears.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for DISM to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall the printer and test it again.
DISM repairs the Windows component source. SFC checks protected Windows files and replaces damaged or missing copies when a matching repair source is available.

If DISM reports that repair files cannot be found
Do not point DISM at an unrelated Windows installation. Microsoft documents using a matching repair source:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:C:RepairSourceWindows /LimitAccess
C:RepairSourceWindows is only an example path. The source must match the installed Windows edition and build. If you do not have a matching repair source, use Windows Update as the repair source or follow Microsoft’s recovery guidance.
SFC may report that it found no integrity violations, found and repaired files, or found files it could not repair. A successful SFC run does not guarantee that a third-party or legacy printer-driver package will be restored. SFC repairs protected Windows files; it does not reconstruct every manufacturer driver package.
5. Check Windows Security quarantine
If oksidm9.dll disappeared after a security scan, check whether Windows Security quarantined it.

- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent detections.
- Expand any detection associated with the printer package.
- Check the file path and detection details.
Do not restore the DLL automatically. A file found in Downloads, Temp, an application directory, or another unexpected location may be a fake replacement. Only consider restoring a quarantined file if it belongs to a verified printer-driver package and the detection is demonstrably a false positive.
In most cases, reinstalling the complete official printer package is safer than restoring an isolated DLL. Run a Windows Security scan if the file appeared in an unexpected location or the warning does not clearly relate to an installed printer.
6. Install pending Windows updates
A failed Windows or printer-driver update can leave an incomplete package.

- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart when prompted.
- Return to Windows Update and check again.
- Reinstall the printer.
Windows 10
- Open Settings.
- Select Update & Security.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall the printer.
If Windows Update repeatedly fails, use Microsoft’s Windows Update troubleshooting guidance before removing additional driver files.
7. Use System Restore after a recent driver change
System Restore is appropriate when the error began immediately after installing a printer, driver, utility, or Windows update.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point dated before the problem began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the changes.
- Select Next, then Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart.
System Restore can roll back drivers, system files, registry settings, and installed programs. It normally does not remove personal documents, but review the affected-program list before confirming.
8. Repair Windows 11 without removing personal files
If DISM, SFC, printer removal, and driver reinstallation all fail, Windows 11 includes a recovery option that reinstalls the current Windows version while preserving apps, files, and settings when available.
- Open Settings.
- Select System.
- Select Recovery.
- Find Fix problems using Windows Update.
- Select Reinstall now.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
The option may not appear on every Windows installation. If it is unavailable, use Microsoft’s recovery options and back up important files before performing a larger repair.
What not to do
Do not download oksidm9.dll from a random DLL website
A loose DLL can be:
- Malware
- The wrong version
- The wrong architecture
- Missing required language resources
- Intended for another Windows build
- Unsigned or tampered with
- Unrelated to the printer package that is failing
Even if copying it removes one popup, the printer may still fail because its INF file, catalog, spooler configuration, or other driver files are missing.

Use Windows Update, the exact printer manufacturer package, or Microsoft’s Windows repair tools instead.

Do not place a downloaded file in:
C:WindowsSystem32C:WindowsSysWOW64- An application folder
DriverStoreFileRepository
System32 and SysWOW64 serve different architectural roles. Copying a 32-bit file into a 64-bit location, or the reverse, does not convert it into a compatible driver.

Microsoft also warns that files in the Driver Store should not be manually added, removed, or modified. Driver packages are validated and installed through their package mechanism.
Do not use regsvr32 as a general repair
regsvr32 applies to DLLs designed to register themselves through an entry point such as DllRegisterServer. A printer-driver DLL is normally installed as part of a package associated with an INF file and spooler configuration.
This command is therefore not a supported general repair:
regsvr32 oksidm9.dll
It may produce an error stating that the entry point was not found. Even if registration succeeds, it will not rebuild the printer-driver package.

Windows Features is not a general DLL repair tool.
You can check optional printing components when a specific printer workflow requires them:
- Open Control Panel.
- Select Programs.
- Select Turn Windows features on or off.
- Review printing-related features.
- Enable only a feature required by the printer or application.
- Select OK.
- Restart if Windows requests it.
Do not enable unrelated features in the hope that they will install oksidm9.dll. This file is associated with a printer-driver package, not a generic Windows optional feature.

The filename alone does not establish whether a file is safe. Historical records identify oksidm9.dll as a printer-driver component, but a fake file with the same name can be placed anywhere.

Check its location, digital signature, installation source, and Windows Security history. A file inside a verified printer-driver package is more credible than one found in Downloads, Temp, or an unrelated application folder.

Should every Windows 10 or Windows 11 computer have this file?
No. There is no reliable basis for saying that every current Windows installation contains it. It is associated with older printer-driver packages and may remain only on systems using legacy printer hardware or software.
Is this a Microsoft system file?
Historical records associate it with Microsoft Windows printer-driver packages and identify Microsoft in the publisher metadata. However, it is not a universal core runtime that every modern Windows installation must contain.
Can SFC restore oksidm9.dll?
Only if the file is treated as a protected Windows component and the matching repair source contains it. SFC does not guarantee restoration of a legacy or third-party printer package. Reinstalling the complete printer driver is usually the more direct repair.
Why does the error mention a game or application?

If printing works and the warning appears only during startup, an old printer utility or scheduled task may be referencing a removed driver. Check Task Manager > Startup apps, installed applications, and Event Viewer rather than replacing a system DLL.
What if the driver is no longer supported?
Modern Windows printing increasingly relies on newer driver models, including the Microsoft IPP Class Driver and Print Support Apps. An old printer may require a manufacturer package that is no longer suitable for the current Windows release. If the official package cannot be installed, consider whether Windows’ available driver supports the printer or whether the device requires a compatible replacement.
If the error remains
Collect the following information before seeking further support:
- The complete error text
- Windows edition, version, and architecture
- Printer make and model
- Whether the printer is USB, network, or print-server connected
- The path from which Windows attempted to load
