You may see “The program can’t start because oleaccrc.dll is missing from your computer” or “The code execution cannot proceed because oleaccrc.dll was not found.” The oleaccrc.dll error usually points to a damaged Windows component, an incomplete application installation, quarantine, or a dependency problem rather than a DLL that you should download manually.
The 60-second answer
oleaccrc.dll is a genuine Microsoft Windows resource DLL used by Oleacc.dll, the runtime for Microsoft Active Accessibility. Its resources include localized strings for accessibility object roles. It normally comes with Windows, rather than being a standalone game or application runtime.

Start with this order:
- Install pending Windows updates and restart.
- Repair Windows with DISM.
- Run System File Checker.
- Repair or reinstall the affected application.
- Check Windows Security Protection History.
- Investigate architecture, dependencies, or broader Windows damage if the error remains.
Do not download oleaccrc.dll from a random DLL website or copy an unverified file into System32, SysWOW64, or an application folder.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteWhat oleaccrc.dll does
Microsoft documents Oleacc.dll as the Microsoft Active Accessibility runtime and proxy library. Oleaccrc.dll is the multilingual resource DLL used by that runtime. It supplies localized resource data rather than acting as a general-purpose application library.

This distinction matters because the file is not normally repaired by registering it with Windows. It is part of the Windows accessibility component and should be restored through Windows servicing or the installer that owns the affected application.
Microsoft’s documentation for Active Accessibility header and library files identifies the relationship between Oleacc.dll and Oleaccrc.dll. Its role data is also related to the localized accessibility object roles described by Microsoft.
On a typical Windows installation, the file is found under a Windows directory:
%windir%System32oleaccrc.dllfor the native system architecture.%windir%SysWOW64oleaccrc.dllfor 32-bit components on 64-bit Windows.
The names are counterintuitive. On 64-bit Windows, System32 contains 64-bit system files, while SysWOW64 contains 32-bit system files. This is part of Windows compatibility handling documented in Microsoft’s File System Redirector documentation.
A 32-bit application can therefore need the 32-bit Windows copy even when the computer itself is running 64-bit Windows. Do not solve this by installing both files manually. Windows and the application installer should select the correct architecture.
Error messages you may see
The wording depends on the program that loads the component and the Windows loader condition. Common examples include:
- “The program can’t start because oleaccrc.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because oleaccrc.dll was not found.”
- “There was a problem starting oleaccrc.dll.”
- “Error loading oleaccrc.dll.”
- “The specified module could not be found.”
- “oleaccrc.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
These messages do not always prove that the named file itself is absent. “The specified module could not be found” can also mean that a dependency required by the requested DLL is missing or damaged.
The dialog may appear when Windows starts, when a desktop application opens, or when one particular program launches. Note the executable or application named in the title bar. That determines whether you should focus first on Windows or on the application installation.
Decide whether Windows or one application is failing
If only one program reports the error
A single application may have an incomplete installation, a broken update, a private dependency, or a launcher that is loading files from the wrong directory. Repair or reinstall that application after completing the Windows repair steps below.
If the program was recently updated, uninstalled, or reinstalled unsuccessfully, the application installation becomes more likely than a system-wide Windows failure.
If several programs report the error
Multiple affected programs, accessibility features that stop working, or other Windows components failing at the same time suggest Windows component corruption, deletion, or a storage problem.
Start with Windows Update, DISM, and SFC. If those tools cannot repair the component, move to the recovery options later in this guide.
Fix 1: Install Windows updates and restart
Windows servicing can replace damaged system components and refresh the component store used by later repairs.
Windows 11
- Open Start and select Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install every available update.
- Restart the computer, even if Windows does not immediately require it.
- Try the affected application again.
Windows 10
- Open Start and select Settings.
- Select Update & Security.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install the available updates.
- Restart Windows and test the program.
If the update process fails, record the error and continue with DISM and SFC. Do not repeatedly restart the application while Windows is waiting for a restart to complete.
Fix 2: Repair Windows with DISM and SFC
DISM repairs the Windows component store. SFC then checks protected system files and replaces damaged copies using that repair source. Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC.
Run DISM
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Enter this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Press Enter.
- Wait for the operation to complete.
The process can appear to pause. Do not close the window while it is running.

A successful result says that the restore operation completed successfully. Restart Windows before testing the application.
Run SFC
Open an elevated Command Prompt again if necessary and run:
sfc /scannow
Press Enter and wait until verification reaches 100 percent.

- Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations. Windows did not find protected-file corruption. Continue with application repair, quarantine checks, and dependency diagnosis if the error remains.
- Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them. Restart Windows and test the program.
- Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Run DISM again, restart, and run SFC once more. If files remain unrepaired, continue to the escalation section.
- Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service. Restart Windows and retry from an elevated Command Prompt.
If you repeatedly run DISM and SFC without knowing which files changed, Outbyte PC Repair can provide a scan that shows the repair issues it identifies; its repair is performed by the full version, and it is optional rather than required for Windows repair.
Use a matching repair source when Windows Update cannot help
If DISM says that source files could not be found, Microsoft documents using installation or recovery media that matches the installed Windows edition and build:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth ^
/Source:C:RepairSourceWindows /LimitAccess
Replace C:RepairSourceWindows with the path to a verified matching Windows repair source. Do not use a source from a different edition or unrelated build.
After DISM completes, run:
sfc /scannow
Then restart Windows and test the affected program.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Extract the SFC repair details
If SFC reports that it could not repair files, extract its relevant entries with:
findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%LogsCBSCBS.log >"%userprofile%Desktopsfcdetails.txt"
Open sfcdetails.txt from the desktop. It can show which protected files SFC examined and whether oleaccrc.dll was among the unrepaired entries.
Fix 3: Repair or reinstall the affected application
If Windows repair completes but one application still reports oleaccrc.dll, repair that application from its own installer or Windows settings.
Repair a Windows 11 application
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Find the affected application.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Select Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair.
- Start the application again.
The Repair option normally preserves the application’s data. If it does not resolve the error, return to the same screen and use Reset only if you understand that it may remove application settings or local data.
Repair a traditional desktop program
- Open Control Panel.
- Select Programs.
- Select Programs and Features.
- Select the affected program.
- Choose Repair or Change, if available.
- Follow the installer prompts.
- Restart Windows and test the program.
Some launchers label this function Verify files, Repair files, or Scan and repair. Use the launcher supplied by the application’s official vendor.
Reinstall when repair fails
If the repair option is unavailable or ineffective:
- Back up saved games, profiles, templates, or other local data.
- Uninstall the affected program.
- Restart Windows.
- Download or reinstall it from the original vendor, Microsoft Store, or another official source.
- Install all updates offered by that installer.
- Launch the program again.
If only one program produces the error, this is often more appropriate than copying a Windows DLL into the program directory.
Fix 4: Check Windows Security Protection History
Antivirus software may quarantine a legitimate Windows file, or it may remove an unsafe replacement that happens to use the same filename.

If a legitimate Windows copy was quarantined, Windows repair is safer than restoring an unverified item from quarantine.
Fix 5: Check architecture and file location
Do not assume that finding one copy of the filename proves that the correct copy is available.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →On 64-bit Windows:
- 64-bit system components normally use
%windir%System32. - 32-bit system components normally use
%windir%SysWOW64.
A 32-bit application may therefore fail while a 64-bit application works. This does not mean you should manually copy the file between those directories. The architecture, build, language resources, permissions, and related dependencies must match.
To identify the affected program:
- Read the executable name in the error dialog.
- Locate the program’s official installation directory.
- Check whether the application is 32-bit or 64-bit using its vendor documentation or installer.
- Repair the application and Windows rather than replacing individual files.
A copy of oleaccrc.dll beside an executable deserves additional scrutiny. Some applications legitimately ship private dependencies, but an unexpected Windows DLL in a user-writable directory can create DLL-search-order problems. The filename alone does not prove that the file is genuine.
Fix 6: Verify a suspicious copy
If you find a copy outside the normal Windows directories:
- Right-click the file.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Digital Signatures tab, if present.
- Select the signature and choose Details.
- Confirm that Windows reports the signature as valid and identifies Microsoft as the signer.
- Check the General and Details tabs for the file location and product information.
- Scan the file with Windows Security.
A valid signature is useful evidence, but it does not make an unexpected application-folder copy automatically appropriate. The file should also be in a normal location for the component and match the installed Windows architecture and build.

If the file is unsigned, located in a temporary or download folder, or associated with an untrusted executable, do not replace the Windows copy with it. Remove the related unwanted software and repair Windows.
Fix 7: Do not use regsvr32 for this file
regsvr32 is intended for DLL or OCX files that explicitly implement a registration entry point. oleaccrc.dll is a resource DLL used by Oleacc.dll; Microsoft does not document it as a self-registering COM component.
Running this command is therefore generally inappropriate:
regsvr32 oleaccrc.dll
It may produce an entry-point or registration error and will not restore a missing Windows component. A .dll extension does not mean that every DLL should be registered.
Use DISM, SFC, Windows Update, and the affected application’s installer instead.
Fix 8: Do not reinstall unrelated runtimes automatically
Visual C++ Redistributable, DirectX, and .NET may be required by the affected application for separate reasons, but Microsoft does not identify them as suppliers of oleaccrc.dll.
Reinstall those packages only when the actual error names a runtime component from them or the application’s official support instructions require it. Installing several unrelated redistributables will not reliably restore a missing Windows accessibility resource.
The same applies to Windows Features:
- Open Control Panel.
- Select Programs.
- Select Turn Windows features on or off.
- Review the available features.
There is no general feature toggle that should be switched on to restore oleaccrc.dll. Do not randomly disable and re-enable features as a substitute for DISM and SFC.
Fix 9: Update drivers only when the evidence points there
A display, input, or accessibility problem can sometimes appear alongside broader system damage, but a missing oleaccrc.dll is not established as a driver package error. Do not start by replacing every driver.
Use Windows Update first:
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Install available updates.
- Open Advanced options.
- Select Optional updates, if available.
- Review driver updates and install only those relevant to the affected hardware.
You can also inspect Device Manager:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the device category related to the symptom.
- Right-click a device.
- Select Properties.
- Review the General tab for an error status.
- Use the Driver tab to inspect or roll back a recently changed driver.
If you are manually hunting through many driver versions, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for driver issues and identify available updates; the driver installation is performed by the full version, and it is not required to repair oleaccrc.dll.
If Device Manager shows no related error and the only symptom is the DLL message, return to Windows repair and application recovery instead of treating drivers as the primary cause.

When DISM and SFC cannot repair the file
If SFC repeatedly reports unrepaired files:
- Run the
findstrcommand to createsfcdetails.txt. - Confirm whether
oleaccrc.dllis listed. - Check whether Windows Update is failing.
- Use a matching repair source with DISM.
- Repair or reinstall the affected application.
- Run Microsoft Defender scans.
- Back up important files before using recovery options.
If Windows is otherwise stable and the problem began after a recent update or software installation, System Restore may be appropriate:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Open Start.
- Search for Create a restore point.
- Open it.
- Select System Restore.
- Choose a restore point from before the problem began.
- Review the affected programs and complete the restore.
System Restore does not replace a current backup and may not be available.
On Windows 11, Settings > System > Recovery > Fix problems using Windows Update > Reinstall now may be available. This reinstalls the current Windows version while preserving apps, files, and settings. Microsoft describes this option in its guidance on reinstalling the current Windows version.
If Windows is failing broadly, use the recovery options described by Microsoft, including Reset this PC or installation media when less disruptive repairs fail. Back up personal files first and confirm that you have the necessary application installers and licenses.

FAQ
Is oleaccrc.dll a Microsoft file?
Yes. Microsoft documents it as the multilingual resource DLL used by Oleacc.dll, the Microsoft Active Accessibility runtime. Verify the path and digital signature if you are examining a particular copy.
Is oleaccrc.dll part of Windows?
It is normally supplied with Windows as part of the Active Accessibility component. It is not normally a standalone modern redistributable that users should download separately.
Why does a 32-bit application need it on 64-bit Windows?
A 32-bit program uses the 32-bit Windows compatibility environment. On 64-bit Windows, that normally means the copy under SysWOW64, while native 64-bit components use System32.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteShould I download the file from a DLL website?
No. A downloaded file can have the wrong architecture, build, language resources, signature, or malicious modifications. It may also hide the actual Windows corruption or dependency failure. Use Windows Update, DISM, SFC, and official application installers.
Does regsvr32 oleaccrc.dll fix the problem?
Generally, no. This is a resource DLL used by Oleacc.dll, not a DLL that Microsoft documents as self-registering.
Why does the message say “specified module could not be found” when the file exists?
The Windows loader may be unable to find a dependency required by the requested file. Repair Windows and the affected application, then investigate the executable and its installation if the message persists.
Should I install Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET?
Not specifically for oleaccrc.dll. Install those packages only when the application’s actual error or official support instructions identify them as required.
