Before troubleshooting: identify what is failing
The PlayStation Store lists One Lonely Outpost as a PS5 game published by indie.io, with a release date of March 6, 2025. The available information does not establish why a particular copy is crashing or whether the problem is widespread.
- Online failure: If the issue occurs during online play or connecting to services, check PlayStation Network status first.
- Launch failure: If the game will not start, installation, extended storage, or license checks may be relevant.
- Crash after loading: Update and restart first, then test whether the issue follows the existing save.
- More than one game affected: Treat this differently from a problem isolated to One Lonely Outpost; see step 10.
10 ways to troubleshoot One Lonely Outpost crashing on PS5
1. Check PlayStation service status
If the game crashes during online play or cannot connect, check PlayStation Network service status. If an alert covers the relevant service, wait for it to clear and try again. PlayStation also suggests checking whether other online games and services work; a failure limited to this game is a useful distinction when reporting the issue.
2. Check for a game update
- Highlight One Lonely Outpost on the PS5 home screen or in your game library.
- Press the Options button on the controller.
- Select Check for Update and install an update if one is offered.
PlayStation’s game freeze and crash guidance recommends checking that the game is up to date. The installed PS5 version number is not established by the available sources.

3. Update PS5 system software
Open Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings, then check for an update. Menu wording can vary as system software changes, so follow the current labels shown on your console. PlayStation includes system software updates in its crash troubleshooting.
4. Make sure the game has finished installing
For a digital copy, highlight the game, press Options, then open Information > Download Status. Wait for installation to complete before launching. An incomplete installation is particularly worth checking if the game will not start or fails during its first launch.

5. Restart the PS5
Restart the console, then launch the game again. This is a low-risk check, and PlayStation’s game launch guidance recommends restarting when a game will not start.
6. Test a new game start without the current save
Start a new game, or use a separate save or profile if the game and console offer that option. Do not overwrite or delete your existing save just to run this check.

If a fresh start works but the existing save repeatedly crashes, the problem may be specific to that save; this test alone does not prove save corruption. Keep a backup if possible and tell indie.io that the issue reproduces with the existing save but not a new start. PlayStation recommends testing a new game start as one way to check for a save-related problem.
7. Reinstall the game without deleting saved data
If updates and the other checks have not helped, delete the installed game and download it again. This step concerns the game installation, not your saved data: do not select or delete the save data as part of the reinstall. PlayStation includes reinstalling a digital game in its crash guidance.

8. Move it from USB extended storage to console storage
If One Lonely Outpost is installed on USB extended storage, move it to the PS5’s internal console storage and try launching it again. This is most relevant when the game will not start or its installation is on extended storage. PlayStation lists this as a launch troubleshooting step, not as a guaranteed fix for crashes after play has begun.
9. Restore licenses if launch access is the problem
If the game will not launch or access appears restricted, try restoring licenses: open Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses, select the game if prompted, and confirm. This is an access check for launch problems, not a general remedy for a game that starts and then crashes. See PlayStation’s launch troubleshooting guidance for the current instructions.
10. Escalate according to the pattern; reset only after backing up
- Only this game crashes: Contact the publisher, indie.io, about possible game-specific issues. PlayStation’s guidance says to contact the game publisher when a problem affects only one game.
- Several games crash: Contact PlayStation Support or use its repair guidance. Problems across multiple titles may point to a console issue rather than one game’s installation or save.
- Prepare a useful report: Include the error code, whether the failure occurs at launch or during play, whether a new game start works, and the steps that reproduce the crash. Add a screenshot or video if possible.
- Consider a console reset only as a last resort: Back up your game data first. PlayStation warns that resetting erases data saved on console storage.
What the July 2026 update does—and does not—tell PS5 players
The developer’s Steam news archive lists a July 9, 2026 post titled “The Big Bug Squash: Stability, Saves & Quality-of-Life Update.” It reports safer save handling and crash fixes involving an Omninac incubator, scheduled mail, daily weather generation, drone fishing, and powered structures missing a part, along with other fixes.
That post is a Steam news item and does not establish that the fixes reached the PS5 version. Check for a PS5 game update using step 2; if the issue persists, report it to indie.io rather than assuming the Steam fixes apply to your console copy. The announcement also does not establish the current PS5 patch number.
