Once Upon A KATAMARI is the first new entry in the Katamari Damacy series in 14 years. It launched worldwide on 24 October 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam and Nintendo Switch; the Nintendo Switch 2 version followed on 8 October 2026. Here’s what the game includes, how its multiplayer works and what to know about the current editions.
What is Once Upon A KATAMARI?
It’s a puzzle action-adventure built around the series’ signature rolling-and-collecting loop. The King of All Cosmos accidentally destroys Earth and the stars while fiddling with a scroll, so the Prince sets out to restore them by rolling a katamari through time and gathering objects.
As the katamari collects objects, it grows and can pick up larger things. The publisher lists stages set in places and periods including the Jurassic Period, the Ice Age and historic Japan. New stages and music join the returning core mechanic, alongside power-ups such as a magnet that attracts nearby objects. The European announcement also names a rocket and a timer.
Which platforms can you play it on?
The game is available across five platform families. The original release was worldwide on 24 October 2025; Nintendo Switch 2 availability began on 8 October 2026.

How do character selection and customization work?
You can play as the Prince or choose from 68 cousins, then customize colors and facial features. The publisher’s FAQ also describes an unlock for the Young King cousin: a profile must have save data from Katamari Damacy REROLL or We Love Katamari REROLL+ Royal Reverie, and the player must complete the stated tutorial and chapter progression.

The Rolling LIVE Highlights DLC includes 10 quests. The current official game page lists 12 BGM tracks, 6 cousins and 18 costume items. It draws on Katamari Damacy Rolling LIVE, but Bandai Namco says the content may differ from that mobile game. The DLC is also sold separately on supported platforms.
The earlier King of Sound Edition was scheduled to be discontinued on 7 October 2026. The publisher’s FAQ previously described a King of All Sounds/Deluxe edition with Songs: Side A (26 background music tracks and up to 18 accessories) and Side B (34 background music tracks and 8 accessories). Those details describe the earlier lineup, not the current Royal Sound Edition contents listed in the Switch 2 announcement.
