What the error means
Windows may display messages such as:
- “The program can’t start because oncorefoundation8.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because oncorefoundation8.dll was not found.”
- “The specified module could not be found.”
- “There was a problem starting oncorefoundation8.dll.”

Identify the affected program
- Press
Ctrl+Shift+Escto open Task Manager. - Select Processes and close the affected application.
- Open Settings with
Win+I. - Select Apps, then Installed apps.
- Search for entries containing onOne, Perfect Photo Suite, or a related photo plug-in.
- Also inspect Photoshop’s plug-in folders if Photoshop is the program reporting the error.
If the error appears only when Photoshop starts, temporarily disable the obsolete onOne plug-in from Photoshop’s plug-in configuration or remove the plug-in through its own uninstaller. Do not delete random DLLs from the Windows directory.

Try Windows repair
- In Settings > Apps > Installed apps, locate the onOne application.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Advanced options if available.
- Select Repair.
- Start the application again.
Windows only shows this repair path when the installer supports it. A successful repair normally restores missing application files without removing personal files or settings.
If Repair is unavailable:
- Open Control Panel.
- Select Programs > Programs and Features.
- Select the onOne product.
- Choose Change, Repair, or Uninstall, depending on what the installer offers.
- Restart Windows.
- Run the original onOne installer again.
- Install the complete product and its Photoshop plug-in components, rather than copying only the DLL.
If you still have the original installer, use it instead of a standalone DLL. No verified current official standalone download for oncorefoundation8.dll or the legacy Perfect Photo Suite 8 installer is available. If the installer is gone, preserve the exact error and contact the current onOne support channel for a legitimate legacy installation path.
Check whether it worked
Launch the application that originally triggered the error. If it opens normally, test the Photoshop plug-in or other host application that used the component. If the same message remains, continue with the checks below rather than downloading another copy.

Fix 2: Check Windows Security quarantine
An antivirus product may have removed or quarantined an old application file.

- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for a detection involving the onOne installation directory or
oncorefoundation8.dll. - Expand the detection and review its path and details.
Do not restore a file solely because its filename matches. If the installer and installation directory are trusted, reinstall the complete application from that installer instead. If Windows Security identifies the file as a false positive and you understand the risk, use the available restore or allow action, then reinstall the application so its related files are restored together.
Microsoft warns that a restored quarantined file may be detected again. If that happens, do not repeatedly approve the same loose file. Obtain a clean installer through the vendor’s legitimate support route.
Start the application after reinstalling. If it works until the next scan, the security detection and the old software need to be addressed together.
Fix 3: Confirm the file location and dependencies
Use File Explorer to check the application directory, not the Windows system directories.

Win+E. - Search the installation drive for
oncorefoundation8.dll. - If found, right-click it and select Properties.
- Check the Details tab for available file information.
- Note the complete folder path.
- Right-click the application’s main executable, select Properties, and inspect the Compatibility tab.
A legitimate installation should place the DLL with the onOne application or plug-in that uses it. Finding the file in C:WindowsSystem32 does not prove that it belongs there.
If the DLL is present but Windows still says the module cannot be found, the missing item may be a dependency. Reinstall the complete onOne product first. Do not attempt to repair dependencies by collecting individual DLLs from unrelated sources.

Fix 4: Check 32-bit and 64-bit compatibility
Public metadata reports this particular DLL as 64-bit, but the host application must also be compatible. A 64-bit DLL cannot be loaded by a 32-bit process in the normal way, and installing a random 32-bit replacement is not a valid workaround.
To check the host process:
- Start the affected application if possible.
- Open Task Manager with
Ctrl+Shift+Esc. - Select Details.
- Look for the application executable.
- On some Windows installations, a 32-bit process is marked with
*32or(32 bit).
For Photoshop plug-ins, use the architecture supported by the installed Photoshop release and the onOne plug-in. An old plug-in may also depend on an interface that newer Photoshop versions no longer support. In that case, reinstalling the DLL will not repair the compatibility problem.
Fix 5: Reinstall a runtime only when the DLL is present but will not load
There is no verified evidence that oncorefoundation8.dll itself is a Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable file. A runtime may help only when the onOne DLL exists but one of its runtime dependencies is missing.
Use Microsoft’s official Visual C++ Redistributable page and select the package architecture that matches the application. Older applications may require an older redistributable that can coexist with newer packages.
After installing the appropriate runtime:
- Restart Windows.
- Launch the onOne application directly.
- Test the Photoshop plug-in again.
- If the error remains, return to a full application reinstall rather than adding more unrelated runtime packages.
Do not assume that the latest runtime replaces every older runtime required by legacy software.
Fix 6: Repair Windows components when other programs are also failing
DISM and System File Checker repair Windows components and protected Windows system files. They generally do not restore a missing third-party onOne DLL, so use them when Windows has broader problems such as damaged built-in apps, update failures, or multiple system-file errors.
- Open Start and type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the affected application.
If DISM or SFC reports repaired files, check whether other Windows symptoms have improved. If both complete successfully but the onOne error remains, reinstall the onOne application because Windows servicing did not own this DLL.

Fix 7: Check drivers only if the failure is broader than this DLL
oncorefoundation8.dll is not identified as a device-driver file. Device Manager is relevant only if the application also crashes alongside display, storage, or capture-device problems.
- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters, Imaging devices, Sound, video and game controllers, and Storage controllers.
- Look for a yellow warning icon.
- Right-click the affected device and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows and test again.
Do not uninstall a working display driver merely because a photo application reports this DLL. Update the driver only when Device Manager or application logs point to a hardware-related problem.

If the error began immediately after removing software, installing an update, or running a cleanup utility, System Restore may reverse the change.
- Press
Win+R. - Enter:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select a restore point from before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the changes.
- Complete the restore and restart Windows.
System Restore affects system and application changes, not personal documents. If the original onOne installation was already removed, reinstalling the complete product may still be necessary.
What not to do
Do not copy the DLL into System32
This file is not documented as a Windows component. Copying it into C:WindowsSystem32 can create path conflicts and does not restore the application’s other files, dependencies, plug-in registration, or licensing data.
Do not download a random replacement
A filename match does not prove that a DLL is genuine, compatible, or complete. A replacement may be altered, the wrong architecture, or built for another onOne release. It may also leave the missing dependency untouched.
Do not run regsvr32 automatically
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that support self-registration, typically OLE or ActiveX components. A normal application library may not export DllRegisterServer. In that case, the command produces an entry-point error and does not repair the program.

Only use regsvr32 if the application’s official installer or vendor documentation specifically requires registration and identifies the correct architecture. For this file, reinstalling the owning application is the appropriate first action.
