The name is easy to misread. Several projects called One Block Horror or Horror OneBlock use different loaders, monsters, memory targets, and server files. Choosing the exact project before installing prevents the most common join and startup failures.

What a one block horror modpack is
One-block survival starts you in the void on a single regenerating block. The underlying One Block mod describes the loop simply: You spawn in the void on a single block. Break it, and it comes back — as something else.
Breaking that block advances staged loot and terrain phases. Depending on the configuration, progress introduces new materials, biome changes, mob waves, portals, automation options, and bosses while leaving very little room for error.
A horror pack layers pressure onto that loop. In the Modrinth Horror OneBlock project, creatures stalk the island and survival is affected by sanity, temperature, stamina, and light. Hallucinations begin as sanity falls, so darkness is a gameplay system rather than just a visual effect. The island’s limited space makes every torch, storage block, and escape route important.

- DELUXE COLLECTION — Includes Minecraft: Java & Bedrock Edition, three Bedrock add-ons, three exclusive Character Creator items, and 700 Minecoins.
- CREATE YOUR WORLD — Build whatever you imagine in an infinite world that’s unique in every playthrough.
- EXPLORE AND CRAFT — Discover biomes, resources, and mobs, then craft your way through a sandbox world filled with surprises.

Other projects use a different style: staged scares, eerie audio, named dwellers, scripted threats, and a steadily darker atmosphere. They may share the one-block premise but are not interchangeable installations.
Choose the exact project before downloading
Read the project name, Minecraft version, loader, and files section together. Do not install a client archive from one project and a server archive from another.
| Project | Documented Minecraft version and loader | Horror and progression style | Memory or popularity figures | Server information |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Horror OneBlock on Modrinth (Froggy Studio) | Java Edition 1.19.2 on Forge; client and server support | Sanity, temperature, stamina, light, hallucinations, stalking creatures; runs on Oneblock by Crepi | At least 6 GB allocated in the launcher | A fresh world copy is required for a full reset; use the project’s dedicated server files |
| One Block Horror on Modrinth | Version and loader are not stated in the cited listing | One starting block, new dimensions, staged progression, automation, bosses, eerie sounds, unexpected threats, increasingly dark atmosphere | Not stated in the cited listing | Not stated in the cited listing |
| HORROR – One Block (dweller) on CurseForge (kamussy) | Forge 1.19.2 and 1.20.1 | Named threats including CANTBREATHE, Cartoon dweller, Cave dweller, From the fog, Goatman, Him/Herobrine, Paranormal activity, The anomaly, The boiled one, The end of herobrine, The knocker, and Whispering spirits | 8 GB system RAM and 4 GB allocated RAM listed as minimum recommendations; 681,556 downloads on the 2026 listing | Server support and a server archive are not stated in the cited listing |
| One Block Horror by Zokaritas on CurseForge | Forge 1.19.2 only | Night-stalking horror monsters; torches must be lit with a matchbox and can go out; sleeping is impossible | 995,691 downloads on the 2024 listing | Separate oneblockhorror-serverfiles-1.3.zip is provided |
The two CurseForge projects demonstrate why the title alone is not enough. The dweller pack spans two Minecraft releases and lists a 4 GB allocation, while Zokaritas’s older pack is 1.19.2 only and supplies a specifically named server archive. The Modrinth baseline is the most completely documented Forge 1.19.2 workflow in the available setup guidance.
How to install One Block Horror on a client
1. Lock the version and loader
- Choose one project and one release. For the baseline workflow, select Horror OneBlock for Minecraft Java Edition 1.19.2 on Forge.
- Write down the complete pack version shown on the project’s files page. A matching Minecraft minor version is not enough if the pack build differs.
- Use the project’s client download in the launcher or supported modpack application. Do not substitute a similarly named pack.
2. Install the matching Forge profile
- Install Minecraft Java Edition and create or install the Forge 1.19.2 profile required by the pack.
- Import or place the client pack through the method supported by the project. Let the pack supply its own mods, configurations, and resource files.
- Keep a separate installation directory for this pack so another Forge instance cannot overwrite its configuration.
3. Allocate memory before the first serious run
The Modrinth Horror OneBlock listing says to allocate at least 6 GB of RAM in the launcher. Set that value before loading a world. The CurseForge dweller variant has a different published target: 8 GB total system RAM and 4 GB allocated RAM as minimum recommendations. Those figures belong to their respective projects; do not copy one pack’s memory setting to another without checking its listing.
Rank #2
- ULTIMATE COLLECTION — Includes Minecraft: Java & Bedrock Edition, five Bedrock add-ons, five exclusive Character Creator items, and 1000 Minecoins.
- CREATE YOUR WORLD — Build whatever you imagine in an infinite world that’s unique in every playthrough.
- EXPLORE AND CRAFT — Discover biomes, resources, and mobs, then craft your way through a sandbox world filled with surprises.
- SURVIVE THE ADVENTURE — Face mysterious foes, travel across exciting landscapes, and venture into perilous dimensions.
- PLAY TOGETHER — Play cross-platform with friends in Bedrock Edition on console, mobile, and PC, or join community servers in Java Edition on PC, Mac, and Linux. Online console multiplayer requires a platform-specific subscription (sold separately).
Allocation is not the same as physical memory. Leave enough RAM for the operating system and launcher. On a machine with only 8 GB total, assigning 6 GB can force swapping and make the game less stable; the dweller listing’s 8 GB system figure is a useful warning that total installed memory matters.
4. Launch once without extras
- Start the Forge profile and wait for the title screen. This first run creates configuration files and exposes missing dependencies before you add anything else.
- Close the game and inspect the log if it crashes. Check Java, Forge, and pack versions before changing mods.
- Only after a clean launch, add optional client-only shaders, HUDs, or texture changes one at a time. Keep a copy of the working installation so you can remove the last change quickly.
5. Create the correct world
Start a new world through the pack’s intended one-block flow. Do not reuse a conventional survival world unless the project explicitly supports it. For Horror OneBlock, the listing says a full reset requires a fresh world copy; deleting a few blocks or changing a gamerule does not recreate a clean progression state.

One Block Horror server setup
A dedicated server needs the server-files archive, not the client download. The client zip can be only a manifest and may contain no runnable server libraries. The documented baseline uses Forge 1.19.2, Java 17, roughly 6 GB for a small group, and TCP port 25565.
Server prerequisites
- Minecraft Java Edition players using the exact same pack release.
- A Forge 1.19.2 server installation matching the selected pack.
- Java 17 installed on the host.
- About 6 GB of available heap for a small group; the hosting guide lists 8 GB for five to ten players.
- Router access for TCP port 25565 and permission to change the host firewall.
- A backup location for the world before every pack or mod update.
1. Download the dedicated server files
- Open the selected project’s files page and choose its server-files archive. For the Zokaritas project, the archive is named
oneblockhorror-serverfiles-1.3.zip; other projects use their own file names. - Extract the archive into a new server directory. Do not overwrite a different modpack server.
- Confirm that the directory contains the supplied mod jars, configuration files, and start script described by the setup guide.
2. Verify Java 17
- Open a terminal in the server directory.
- Run
java -version. - Continue only when the output identifies Java 17. A newer or older runtime can fail before Forge loads, even if the client appears to work.
3. Install Forge when the archive requires it
If the server package does not already include the installed Forge server, place the matching Forge installer in the directory and run:

- CREATE YOUR WORLD — Build whatever you imagine in an infinite world that is unique in every playthrough.
- EXPLORE AND CRAFT — Discover biomes, resources, and mobs, then craft your way through a sandbox world full of surprises.
- SURVIVAL ADVENTURES — Face mysterious foes, travel across varied landscapes, and venture into perilous dimensions.
- PLAY TOGETHER — Play solo or join friends in local split-screen and cross-platform play across console, mobile, and PC. Online multiplayer supports up to 8 players.
- COMMUNITY PLAY — Connect with players on community servers, or subscribe to Realms Plus (sold separately) to play with up to 10 friends on a private server.
java -jar forge-installer.jar --installServer
Use the Forge installer for the exact Minecraft and Forge build specified by the pack. Installing a different build creates a version mismatch that looks like a missing-mod error to players.
4. Accept the EULA
- Start the server once with the supplied start script.
- Wait for the initial files to be generated, then stop the process cleanly.
- Open
eula.txtand change the EULA line toeula=true. - Start the server again and wait for the console to finish loading before connecting.
5. Set heap memory
Set the start script’s Java heap to a value appropriate for the pack and group. The documented small-group baseline is 6 GB; the hosting guidance lists 8 GB for five to ten players. Treat those as allocation guidance, not a promise of a fixed player capacity. Mob farms, automation, chunk loaders, and frequent exploration can raise the server’s needs.
Do not assign all physical RAM to Java. Keep memory for the operating system, file cache, and any voice or administration tools running on the host.
6. Open the network path
- Allow the server executable through the host firewall.
- Forward TCP port 25565 from the router to the machine running the server.
- Give friends the public address and port only after the server is running and reachable from outside your home network.
- Never publish console credentials or remote-administration passwords with the address.
If everyone is on the same local network, a LAN address may work without router forwarding. Players connecting over the internet generally need the TCP forwarding rule.

- Cross platform play for up to five players between Pocket Edition and Windows 10
- Revamped touch controls, controller support, and a controller mapping screen
- Enhanced Weather effects! Accumulating snow and more
7. Keep server and clients identical
Copy the same pack release, Minecraft version, Forge build, and required configuration to every player. A client-only shader, HUD, or texture mod stays on the player’s computer and does not belong in the dedicated server’s mods folder. Conversely, removing a gameplay mod from the server because it appears visual can prevent clients from joining if the pack expects it.
How to play One Block Horror with friends
- Have every player install the same client pack release before the first connection.
- Start the dedicated server and wait for its world to load completely.
- Verify that the one-block island is the intended new world rather than an old save.
- Connect using the server’s local or public address and TCP port 25565.
- Agree on who will break the regenerating block, who will build lighting and shelter, and who will handle storage and automation. On a tiny island, unplanned expansion can remove safe standing space.
- Make a world backup before changing versions, adding mods, or opening new dimensions.
Horror mechanics make coordination more important than in ordinary skyblock. Keep lit paths, mark the edge of the island, and reserve a protected area for beds or spawn-related equipment even when the pack changes normal sleeping rules. Treat unfamiliar sounds or hallucinations as possible mechanics, not proof that the server has corrupted.
How much RAM does One Block Horror need?
| Situation | Published figure | How to apply it |
|---|---|---|
| Modrinth Horror OneBlock client | At least 6 GB allocated in the launcher | Use this as the starting allocation for the documented Forge 1.19.2 pack, then watch for garbage-collection pauses or operating-system swapping |
| CurseForge HORROR – One Block (dweller) | 8 GB system RAM and 4 GB allocated RAM minimum recommendations | These figures apply to that project, not automatically to other one-block packs |
| Dedicated server, small group | 6 GB recommended | Baseline cited by the server setup guide; increase only when actual load from players, automation, or farms requires it |
| Dedicated server, five to ten players | 8 GB recommended | Hosting guidance for that group size; CPU speed and tick-heavy machines still matter |
RAM cannot cure every lag problem. If the server’s tick rate falls while memory remains available, inspect mob density, redstone and automation, chunk loaders, and farms. A void island reduces terrain generation, but it does not eliminate entity or block-update work.
Common startup and connection failures
The server closes immediately
- Run
java -versionand correct the runtime to Java 17. - Compare the Forge build and Minecraft version with the pack’s server files.
- Check that the server archive, rather than a client manifest, was extracted.
- Remove accidental client-only mods from the server’s
modsdirectory. - Confirm that the heap setting is realistic for the machine and that the operating system is not out of memory.
A player gets a mod-list or version mismatch
- Compare the complete pack version, not just the words One Block Horror.
- Confirm that both sides use Forge and the same Minecraft minor version.
- Check configuration files if the pack distributes them; gameplay configuration differences can be rejected even when the jar list looks correct.
- Reinstall from a clean client instance rather than copying individual jars between packs.
The server is running but friends cannot join
- Test the host locally first.
- Allow Java or the server process through the firewall.
- Forward TCP 25565 to the correct internal machine.
- Check whether the internet provider uses carrier-grade NAT, which can prevent inbound forwarding.
- Give remote players the public address, while local players use the LAN address when appropriate.
The world lags after expansion
- Reduce simultaneous mob buildup and remove unnecessary entities.
- Throttle or redesign always-on farms and redstone clocks.
- Review chunk loaders and automated dimensions.
- Increase memory only after checking tick-heavy machines; more RAM does not make an overloaded tick loop faster.
World resets, updates, and backups
A one-block world stores progression in its generated phases, structures, and configuration state. Back up the entire world directory before updating the pack, changing Forge builds, or testing a new mod. Keep at least one untouched copy outside the live server directory.
Best Value
- Play and share with friends on console, mobile and Windows 10
- discover community creations in the new in-game store
- access new mini games and game modes through servers
For Modrinth’s Horror OneBlock, the listing explicitly says a full reset requires a fresh world copy. The safest reset procedure is to stop the server, move the old save to an archive, install a clean world as directed by the pack, and start again. Do not delete only the visible island and assume the progression tables have reset.
When updating, first duplicate the server directory, then update one component at a time. Have every client update to the same release before reconnecting. If the new build changes world-generation or progression data, keep the old backup available; downgrading a modified save can be unsafe.

Choosing between the documented horror styles
Choose the Modrinth Horror OneBlock baseline when systems are the attraction
Its published mechanics combine sanity, temperature, stamina, light, hallucinations, and stalking creatures. That creates a survival-management experience in which lighting and resource planning affect fear as well as visibility. It also has the clearest documented 1.19.2 Forge client-and-server workflow and a specific 6 GB launcher recommendation.
Choose the dweller variant when you want named threats
The CurseForge dweller project lists a large roster of recognizable entities and supports Forge 1.19.2 and 1.20.1. Its listing gives a separate memory profile of 4 GB allocated with 8 GB system RAM. Verify server files and exact release details on the project page before promising a multiplayer setup, because the cited listing does not establish a server archive.
Choose the Zokaritas project for its older, stricter 1.19.2 rules
This Forge 1.19.2-only pack supplies a named server-files archive and emphasizes nighttime monsters, matchbox-lit torches that can go out, and no sleeping. It is a different installation from both Modrinth projects, despite the similar title.
