When Alienware Command Center (AWCC) will not open, stays on a white screen, crashes, or reports that no AlienFX devices are detected, start with the built-in repair for Alienware Command Center Package Manager. If repair does not restore the app, remove the remaining AWCC folders, restart, and install the current package matched to your computer’s Service Tag. Do not install AWCC 5.x and 6.x side by side: Dell says the two generations conflict and can prevent proper device response.
The sequence below follows Dell’s published repair, prerequisite, installation, and cleanup guidance, then covers device-detection and installer problems.

What “AWCC not working” usually means
AWCC is a collection of Alienware components rather than only a lighting panel. Dell’s current package can install the core application, Game Library, AlienFX lighting controls, performance and overclocking controls, I/O peripheral support, and display packages. A failure in one component, an incomplete update, leftover files from an older generation, or a missing model-specific package can make the whole interface appear broken.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe symptom helps choose the shortest path:
- The app does not launch, crashes, or remains on a white screen: repair the package first, then perform a clean removal if repair fails.
- The installer will not complete: confirm Windows, BIOS, Microsoft Store, and application prerequisites before retrying.
- AWCC opens but shows no AlienFX device: check model and peripheral support and the relevant drivers; this may be a detection or compatibility issue rather than a damaged interface.
- You have tried AWCC 5 and AWCC 6: remove the conflicting generation and keep the package intended for your computer.
Dell’s AWCC 6.x documentation lists Windows 10 and Windows 11 as supported operating systems. The Service Tag result on Dell Support is the authoritative way to identify the package and supported peripherals for a particular machine.

1. Run the built-in repair before uninstalling anything
Repair is the least disruptive option because it keeps the existing installation structure while reinstalling selected components.
- Open Windows settings and go to Apps. In Windows 11 this is usually Installed apps; in Windows 10 it is labeled Apps & features.
- Search for Alienware Command Center Package Manager, not only the shortcut named Alienware Command Center.
- Open its additional options and choose Modify.
- In the package manager wizard, choose Repair.
- Select the features the wizard offers to reinstall, then finish the wizard.
- Restart Windows if the wizard requests it, and test AWCC before changing any other software.
If AWCC opens after the restart, check the lighting, performance, and peripheral pages that you actually use. A successful launch does not guarantee that every optional package is installed, so note any specific component that remains unavailable.
2. Check prerequisites before a reinstall
AWCC 6.x installation depends on more than the application executable. Dell’s guide calls for the latest Dell package for the computer, Microsoft Store updates to be enabled, an up-to-date BIOS, and other applications that conflict with AWCC to be closed.

Prerequisite checklist
- Correct operating system: AWCC 6.x documentation lists Windows 10 and Windows 11.
- Current BIOS: install the BIOS offered for your exact computer model through Dell’s support pages before retrying AWCC.
- Microsoft Store updates: leave Store updating enabled so required app components can be obtained.
- Closed conflicting applications: save work and exit utilities that may take control of lighting, performance, displays, or input devices while the package is being installed.
- Administrator access: use an administrator account for removal and installation.
These checks matter because reinstalling the same package without meeting its prerequisites can reproduce the original failure. If the computer is managed by an organization, policy may also prevent Store or driver updates; in that case, an administrator must apply the required changes.
3. Download the package for the exact computer
Do not choose a generic AWCC download when Dell offers a model-specific package. On Dell Support, identify the computer with its Service Tag, select Windows 11 (or the operating system actually installed), open the Application category, and download the latest Alienware Command Center package shown for that machine.
- Find the Service Tag on the computer or in Windows system information.
- Open Dell Support and enter the Service Tag so the site identifies the exact model.
- Confirm the detected operating system. Choose Windows 11 only when Windows 11 is installed; otherwise select the applicable supported edition.
- Filter downloads by Application.
- Download the newest AWCC package listed for that model and keep the installer available until the installation is confirmed.
The package manager can install the core app together with Game Library, AlienFX, performance and overclocking controls, I/O peripherals, and display packages. Which of those components are offered is model-specific.

While your computer's performance might be slightly impacted, this option may also reduce both CPU and GPU power consumptions.
4. Perform a clean AWCC removal when repair fails
Use clean removal only after the built-in repair has failed or the installation is clearly damaged. The procedure removes residual folders that can cause a new installer to reuse broken files.
- Sign in with an administrator account.
- Uninstall Alienware Command Center from Windows Apps settings. If more than one AWCC-related entry is present, remove the AWCC entries that belong to the failed installation.
- After uninstalling, open File Explorer and inspect the following locations for remaining Alienware folders:
%appdata%,%programdata%,C:Program FilesAlienware, and olderC:Program Files (x86)locations. - Delete the remaining AWCC-related folders in those locations, following Dell’s cleanup procedure.
- Open your Documents folder and remove the AlienFX and Alienware TactX folders specified by Dell’s procedure.
- Restart Windows. The restart is important because services and files locked during uninstall must be released before installation.
- Run the current, Service-Tag-matched Dell installer you downloaded, complete the package manager wizard, and restart again if requested.
Work carefully in these folders: remove the Alienware folders identified by the procedure rather than unrelated files. If a folder is not present, continue; its absence simply means there is no residual copy in that location.
5. Never run AWCC 5.x and 6.x together
Dell explicitly says that installing both generations simultaneously causes a conflict and can result in a failure of proper device response and behavior. AWCC 6.0’s supported upgrade path removes AWCC 5.0 automatically.

| Situation | Recommended action | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| AWCC 5.x is installed and the computer supports AWCC 6.x | Use the supported AWCC 6.x upgrade package for the exact computer. | The upgrade path is designed to remove AWCC 5.0 rather than leave both generations installed. |
| Both 5.x and 6.x appear in Windows | Do not launch or reinstall them side by side. Remove the obsolete installation, restart, and install the supported generation. | Dell identifies simultaneous installation as a source of device-response conflicts. |
| You are unsure which generation belongs to the model | Use the Service Tag lookup and the package Dell lists for that computer. | Supported packages and peripherals vary by model. |
6. If AWCC opens but says “no AlienFX devices detected”
A blank device list does not prove that the AWCC program itself is corrupted. First establish whether the computer or peripheral is supported by the package you installed.
Check the model-specific package
Return to Dell Support, identify the computer by Service Tag, and verify that the installed AWCC generation and peripheral package are listed for that model. A package intended for another Alienware system may launch but lack the component needed for your hardware.
Check Alienware keyboards and mice
Dell advises obtaining AWCC and the peripheral driver from Dell Support when Windows Update does not respond for an Alienware keyboard or mouse. Install the driver listed for the exact computer or peripheral, restart if requested, and then reopen AWCC.

Separate software detection from hardware failure
If the correct package and driver are installed but the device remains absent, test the peripheral connection and try the device on the computer’s supported port or connection method. AWCC cannot configure hardware that Windows does not enumerate. Do not buy replacement hardware solely because the AWCC device page is empty; confirm model support and drivers first.
7. White screen, crash, or failure immediately after launch
Use the repair sequence rather than repeatedly launching the app. A white screen or crash can result from a damaged package, incomplete component installation, or a generation conflict.
- Close AWCC and any related process that remains open.
- Run Modify > Repair for Alienware Command Center Package Manager.
- Restart Windows and test again.
- If the symptom returns, verify the BIOS, Microsoft Store update, and application prerequisites.
- Perform the clean removal, restart, and Service-Tag-matched reinstall described above.
- After reinstalling, test one feature at a time—first launch, then lighting, then performance or peripheral controls—to identify which component still fails.
There is no published universal AWCC repair-rate statistic or average fix time from Dell or Microsoft, so a successful result depends on the computer model, installed generation, and the underlying cause.

When Windows refuses to install or remove the package, use Microsoft’s app installation and removal troubleshooter guidance. Microsoft notes that not every desktop application exposes Repair or Reset controls. Follow the publisher’s removal instructions—in this case, Dell’s AWCC cleanup procedure—when those controls are unavailable.
Keep reinstalling Windows as a last resort. A blocked AWCC installer normally warrants checking prerequisites, removing residual AWCC folders, and using the exact Dell package before considering an operating-system reset.
Choosing the right recovery path
| Observed problem | First action | Escalate when |
|---|---|---|
| AWCC does not open or crashes | Package Manager > Modify > Repair | Repair and restart do not restore launch. |
| White screen persists | Confirm prerequisites, then clean removal and reinstall | The current package still fails after a clean installation. |
| No AlienFX devices detected | Verify model support and install the listed peripheral driver | The supported device is still absent from Windows or AWCC. |
| AWCC 5.x and 6.x are both present | Remove the conflicting generation and use the supported upgrade path | The Service Tag package does not identify a compatible generation. |
| Installer cannot add or remove AWCC | Use Microsoft’s app installation/removal troubleshooting guidance and Dell’s cleanup steps | Windows installation itself is failing beyond AWCC. |
Dell’s upgrade article 000211120 was last modified 17 May 2026, and its AWCC 6.x support manual was updated 27 April 2026. Labels and package availability can change, so use the current Service Tag result rather than an installer copied from another Alienware model.
