Steam data shows a steep post-launch drop, but it does not prove that 90% of Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO players left within four weeks. SteamCharts’ monthly average fell from 40,078.81 concurrent players in October 2024 to 8,426.46 in November—a 78.98% decrease. That comparison is between monthly averages, not an exact four-week interval, and it covers Steam rather than every platform.
What the Steam numbers actually show
Player-count headlines can refer to different measurements. A peak is the highest number online at once; an average describes typical concurrency over a stated period; and a live count is a momentary snapshot. None of those is the same as the number of people who bought or ever played the game.
| Measure | Reported figure | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Steam all-time peak | 122,554 concurrent players on 11 October 2024, according to SteamDB | The highest simultaneous Steam player count recorded by that tracker. |
| Steam monthly average, October 2024 | 40,078.81 concurrent players; monthly peak 120,000, according to SteamCharts | Average concurrency across the month; the monthly peak is a separate measure. |
| Steam monthly average, November 2024 | 8,426.46 concurrent players; monthly peak 22,532, according to SteamCharts | About 78.98% below October’s monthly average. |
| Recent Steam average | 921.78 concurrent players over the 30 days displayed by SteamCharts, accessed 8 October 2026 | A changing, platform-specific snapshot of recent average concurrency—not a count of all active players. |
The SteamDB all-time peak and SteamCharts’ October monthly peak differ because the trackers’ recorded values or methods differ. They should be attributed to their respective sources, not blended into a single figure. SteamCharts also displayed a live count of 689 at 12:07:43 UTC on 6 October 2026; live counters change, so that number is meaningful only with its capture time.
Does this prove a 90% loss in under four weeks?
No. The October-to-November comparison indicates a roughly 79% decline in Steam monthly average concurrency, but it does not establish that concurrency fell by 90% within a specific four-week span. Monthly averages cover calendar months, and the October average is not the launch-day peak. To verify a precise “90% in under four weeks” claim, a source would need comparable observations at the start and end of that exact interval.

It also would not be accurate to say that 90% of all owners quit based on these charts. Concurrent users are the people online at the same time, not the total number of owners, unique players, or people who have played the game. The trackers measure Steam activity, not PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S activity.
Why the launch context matters
Bandai Namco announced that Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO launched on 8 October 2024 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam. The publisher described a launch roster of 181 playable characters and modes including Episode Battle, Custom Battle, online play, split-screen versus, and tournaments. Steam describes it as a 3D arena fighter in the Budokai Tenkaichi/Sparking lineage, with single-player and online and shared-screen PvP.

The game also had a large commercial launch. Bandai Namco reported more than 3 million units sold worldwide within 24 hours, then reported more than 5 million units sold worldwide as of 31 December 2024. Those sales figures are not concurrent-player counts and do not show how many people were still playing at either point.

A falling Steam chart can show that fewer people are online simultaneously than during launch, but it cannot by itself settle whether the game is “dead.” That judgment depends on what a player needs: a healthy matchmaking pool in a particular region and mode, a busy local community, or simply access to offline and private matches. The cited figures do not break activity down by region or mode, and they do not include the console playerbase.
