opclib.dll is an application DLL most commonly associated with Corel graphics software, although it can also appear with bundled software such as Button Manager V2. The safest fix is to identify the program showing the error, repair that installation, and avoid downloading a replacement DLL into System32.
What this file actually does
opclib.dll is not known to be a Windows system file. It normally belongs in the installation folder of the application that needs it.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
Public file inventories associate it with products including CorelDRAW Graphics Suite, CorelDRAW Essentials, CorelDRAW Technical Suite, and other Corel graphics applications. Separate inventories also list OPCLIB.dll with Brother or IRIS Button Manager V2. That means the error message alone is not enough to identify the owner.
Check these clues:
- An error when starting CorelDRAW, Corel DESIGNER, Corel PHOTO-PAINT, CorelDRAW Essentials, or Technical Suite usually points to a damaged Corel installation.
- An error when starting Button Manager V2 or scanner software may point to that bundled application instead.
- A file under
C:Program FilesCorel...points toward Corel. - A file under
C:Program Files (x86)IRISButton Manager...points toward Button Manager. - A copy in
C:WindowsSystem32,C:WindowsSysWOW64, a temporary folder, or your Downloads folder deserves additional scrutiny.
Windows normally searches an ordinary desktop application’s own directory before system directories. The correct repair is therefore to restore the file to the application’s installation through its installer, not to copy a similarly named DLL into a Windows folder.

Causes and symptoms
| What you see | Most likely cause | Best next step |
|---|---|---|
| “opclib.dll was not found” | The application file is missing, quarantined, or inaccessible | Repair the affected application |
| “The code execution cannot proceed because opclib.dll was not found” | An incomplete or damaged installation | Run the product installer’s Repair option |
| “opclib.dll could not be loaded” | The DLL or one of its dependencies failed to load | Check the path, architecture, antivirus history, and dependencies |
“opclib.dll is not designed to run on Windows” or 0xc000007b |
Architecture mismatch or file corruption | Reinstall the matching application build |
| “The procedure entry point … could not be located in opclib.dll” | An incompatible DLL version is being loaded | Remove the mismatched copy and repair the owning program |
| The error started after an update | The update was incomplete or mixed files from different builds | Repair using the same product installer or reinstall |
| Only one Windows account is affected | Permissions, profile, or per-user installation problem | Test the application in another account |
Fix opclib.dll errors in order
1. Identify the program that displays the error
Read the title bar and the first line of the message carefully. The affected executable is more useful than the DLL name.
Then check installed applications:
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
appwiz.cpl. - Press Enter.
- Look for CorelDRAW, CorelDRAW Essentials, CorelDRAW Technical Suite, Corel DESIGNER, Corel PHOTO-PAINT, Button Manager V2, or related software.
- Note the exact product name and edition.
You can also inspect likely installation folders:
- Open File Explorer.
- Check
C:Program FilesCorel. - Check
C:Program Files (x86)Corel. - If Button Manager is involved, check
C:Program Files (x86)IRISButton Manageror the product’s listed installation path. - Do not launch an unfamiliar copy of
opclib.dlldirectly. DLL files are loaded by programs and are not normally opened by double-clicking.
If the error names a specific program, repair that program first. If no owner is obvious, use the error timing: the application that fails immediately before the message appears is usually the owner.
2. Repair the affected Corel or bundled application
For a Corel product installed through Control Panel:
- Close Corel and any related background processes.
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
appwiz.cpland press Enter. - Select the affected Corel product.
- Choose Uninstall/Change.
- Select Repair when the Corel maintenance program appears.
- Follow the prompts and allow the installer to restore missing or damaged components.
- Restart Windows.
- Start the application again.
If the product has no Repair button, use the original installer or the installer associated with the same major product release and select Repair or Modify. If that option is unavailable, uninstall the product and reinstall it from the original Corel account, installation media, or official installer.
For Button Manager V2 or another bundled application, use the same approach:
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find the application.
- Select the three dots beside it.
- Choose Uninstall or Modify, depending on what the installer provides.
- Use Repair if available.
- Otherwise reinstall the complete scanner or device software from the device vendor’s official installer.
A successful repair normally produces one of these results: the application starts normally, the missing-file message disappears, or the error changes to the name of a different missing dependency. If the message changes, record the new filename rather than downloading opclib.dll again.
3. Check antivirus quarantine
Security software can remove or quarantine a damaged, modified, or incorrectly detected application DLL.

- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Review recent events for
opclib.dll. - Open the event and note the original file path and detection details.
Restore the file only when all of these are true:
- The original path belongs to the Corel or bundled application you intentionally installed.
- The application came from a legitimate installer.
- You can verify the installation and its files.
- A complete scan does not identify broader malware.
If the file came from a temporary folder, a download, an unknown installer, or an unrelated application directory, do not restore it. Repair or reinstall the legitimate application instead. After a repair, run Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Scan options > Full scan.

4. Match the application and DLL architecture
A 32-bit application cannot normally load a 64-bit DLL, and a 64-bit application cannot use a 32-bit replacement. Do not use the presence of System32 or SysWOW64 as a reason to copy the file there. Those folders have special Windows redirection behavior, and private application DLLs should remain with their owning program.
To check the application architecture, use the product’s documentation or installer options. You can also inspect the executable with a trusted system or development utility, but do not replace files based only on a filename.
The practical fix is:
- Uninstall the affected application if repair cannot correct the mismatch.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the correct edition and architecture from the original vendor installer.
- Do not copy
opclib.dllfrom another Corel release. - Do not combine a DLL from one product build with an executable from another.
This is especially important when the error says the file is “not designed to run on Windows” or shows 0xc000007b.

5. Install Visual C++ only when the error identifies it
opclib.dll should not be assumed to be part of the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable. Visual C++ may be a dependency of the application, but installing it does not recreate a missing application DLL.
Repair or install Microsoft’s official Visual C++ Redistributable when:
- The error names
VCRUNTIME140.dll,MSVCP140.dll, or another Microsoft runtime file. - The application installer explicitly says that Visual C++ is required.
- The application’s official repair process reports a missing runtime.
Use the package architecture that matches the application. A 32-bit application may require the x86 package even on 64-bit Windows. A 64-bit application requires the x64 package.
After installing the runtime, restart Windows and test the application. If the error still specifically names opclib.dll, return to the application repair or reinstall step.

6. Update Windows
Windows updates can correct supporting components and compatibility issues, although there is no evidence that Windows Update itself normally supplies opclib.dll.

- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Choose Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the affected application.
If the problem began immediately after an application update, repairing the application is more relevant than repeatedly checking Windows Update.
7. Repair broader Windows corruption with DISM and SFC
Use these commands when several unrelated applications are failing, Windows reports damaged components, or the application repair process cannot run correctly. They are not a download source for a missing private Corel DLL.
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt and choose Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for it to complete.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows after both commands finish.
If SFC reports that it repaired files, test the application. If it reports that it could not repair everything, run Windows Update, restart, and repeat the DISM and SFC sequence once. If only one Corel or bundled application still fails, repair that application rather than treating opclib.dll as a Windows component.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →When repeatedly hunting through system repairs is taking longer than checking the application installer, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for problems and show what needs attention; its repair actions require the full version, and reinstalling the owning application remains the definitive fix for a missing private DLL.
8. Update related device software and drivers
Drivers are relevant mainly when opclib.dll appears with scanner, capture, or Button Manager software. A display or printer driver is not a substitute for repairing the application that owns the DLL.
To check a related device:
- Right-click Start.
- Choose Device Manager.
- Expand the relevant category, such as Imaging devices, Cameras, Printers, or Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Right-click the device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
For a persistent Button Manager error, download the complete device software package from the device manufacturer’s official support channel and reinstall it. Do not install a standalone DLL.
Manually checking several device entries and matching driver packages can be tedious when you do not know which component changed. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and identify outdated drivers; the free scan shows the findings, while driver installation through the full version is optional, and it does not replace reinstalling the application that owns opclib.dll.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems9. Use System Restore only for a recent system change
System Restore is reasonable when the failure began after a recent application installation, Windows change, or driver update and a restore point exists from before the problem.
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Choose Next.
- Select a restore point dated before the error appeared.
- Review the affected programs.
- Choose Finish and allow Windows to restart.
System Restore rolls back system configuration and installed programs but normally does not remove personal files. It does not replace the need to reinstall a damaged application if the program files remain incomplete.

Do not download opclib.dll from a random DLL website. A replacement may contain malware, belong to a different product, use the wrong architecture, or have an incompatible version. It may also leave the original damaged installation untouched.

Do not run this automatically:
regsvr32 opclib.dll
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. There is no established evidence that opclib.dll is a COM or ActiveX component requiring registration. Use the command only if the application vendor specifically documents it.
If the repair still fails
Collect these details before repeating repairs:
- The exact application name and edition.
- The full error text and any error code.
- The path where
opclib.dllwas found, if it exists. - Whether the application is 32-bit or 64-bit.
- Whether the error began after an update, cleanup, antivirus event, or driver installation.
- Whether another Windows user account can start the application.
- Whether a clean reinstall using the original installer changes the error.
If only one user account is affected, test a new local Windows profile. A profile-specific permission or per-user installation problem may be involved. If multiple unrelated applications fail, investigate Windows corruption, storage problems, and malware instead of focusing only on this filename.
FAQ
Is opclib.dll a Windows file?
No evidence identifies it as a built-in Windows component. It is associated primarily with third-party application installations, especially Corel software.
Is opclib.dll part of Visual C++?
That has not been verified. Visual C++ may support the application, but installing the redistributable will not normally restore a missing opclib.dll.
Should I put opclib.dll in System32?
No. Keep private application DLLs in the installation directory of the program that uses them.
