The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons are still two distinct 2001 Game Boy Color adventures in Nintendo’s Game Boy – Nintendo Classics library for Switch—not a newly combined remake. The Switch version adds library features such as rewind and suspend points, while the games’ defining differences remain their settings, stories, and world-changing mechanics.
Are the Oracle games different from one another?
Yes. Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons are separate adventures with different settings, stories, and characters, not slight variations of the same quest. Nintendo describes both as 2001 Game Boy Color games and presents them as a pair that can be connected by a password after completing one. Nintendo’s July 2023 announcement explains the games’ individual premises and their password connection.

|---|---|---|---|
| Oracle of Ages | Labrynna | Link uses the Harp of Ages to travel between periods in time. | Actions in the past can alter the present: moving a stone may redirect a river, while planting seeds can yield trees and vines later. |
| Oracle of Seasons | Holodrum | Link uses the Rod of Seasons to change the seasons. | Seasonal changes solve obstacles: a spring flower can grow tall enough to climb, or a frozen lake in winter can serve as a path. |
How the games connect
Completing one adventure gives you a password to use in the other. Nintendo says this can unlock items, affect what characters remember, and expand story elements. It is a way for the two separate games to interact rather than a requirement that turns them into one game. Nintendo recommends linking them for a more connected experience; its overview describes the goal as linking the two versions to “unlock bonus content and expand the adventure.” Nintendo’s overview of Link’s earlier adventures uses that wording.
What the Switch collection changes—and what it does not establish
Nintendo’s current Game Boy – Nintendo Classics library listing includes both Oracle games and offers shared library features: suspend points, rewind, and selectable Game Boy, Game Boy Pocket, or Game Boy Color screen styles. These are conveniences of the Switch library presentation.

Nintendo’s cited pages do not describe the Oracle games as remakes or provide a title-specific change log showing that their stories, dungeons, or core mechanics have been redesigned. The supported comparison is therefore between the original games and their newer library presentation—not between the originals and a newly rebuilt Oracle compilation.
