The important distinction is between ownership, account access, and installation. Your digital entitlement is associated with an EA Account or, for some purchases, a linked platform account. A game that is not currently installed—or whose files need to be downloaded again—is not necessarily a lost purchase.

What happened to Origin?
EA began transitioning PC players from Origin to the EA app after the EA app left open beta in 2022. EA’s current product and support documentation now describes the EA app as the replacement for Origin on PC and Mac. Origin is no longer available or supported as the Windows route, and the old Origin error EC:20:403 is associated with Origin no longer being available for Windows.

This is therefore not a new 2026 game-deletion event. The practical issue today is making sure you can authenticate to the correct EA Account and recover the content that belongs to it. EA says games and other content transfer when users move from Origin to the EA app, but that does not mean every title will already be installed, every old save will be present, or every game will run on every current computer.
1. Install the official EA app
Download the EA app from EA’s official website. Do not use an archived Origin installer, a third-party download mirror, or a random “fix” that claims to restore Origin.
EA’s current product information lists support for:
- 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11 PCs
- Macs running macOS Catalina or newer
Those are requirements for the app, not a guarantee that every EA game supports the same operating system. Each game has its own system requirements, online-service requirements, launcher requirements, and compatibility limitations. Check the title’s Game Hub in the EA app before assuming that an older game will run on your current machine.
- Choose the PC or Mac version of the EA app.
- Download and install it from EA.
- Sign in with the EA Account previously used with Origin.
- Allow the app time to synchronize your Library.
2. Sign in with your original EA Account
This is the most important migration step. Your purchases are tied to the EA Account, not to the Origin program installed on a particular computer. If you create a new EA Account during setup, that new account can look completely empty even though your games still belong to another account.
Before troubleshooting anything else:
- Sign out of the EA app.
- Sign back in using the email address associated with your old Origin account.
- Check whether you used a different email, social-login address, or console-linked account in the past.
- Do not create additional EA Accounts simply because the first Library is empty.
Inside your EA Account settings, review About Me, Connected Accounts, Payment and Wallet, and Order History. These areas can reveal whether you are looking at the wrong account, whether a platform is linked elsewhere, or whether a recent order is still processing.
3. Check your Library and reinstall games
Open Library in the EA app and look for the games associated with the account. A title appearing in the Library means the account has an entitlement; it does not necessarily mean the game is currently installed. The Installed games area is the more relevant view for titles already downloaded to the computer.

To install a game:
- Open Library.
- Select the game.
- Confirm the installation location and language.
- Accept the Terms of Play if prompted.
- Select Download.
If the game files are already on another drive, the EA app may need to rediscover or verify them rather than download the entire title. The exact procedure and success of that process vary by game and installation. Do not delete an existing game folder until you have checked whether the app can locate or repair it.
Games purchased outside the EA app, including some physical releases, may require redemption of the relevant product code. A disc or box by itself does not always establish a digital entitlement in the EA Account; the code and the account to which it was redeemed matter.
4. Check DLC and expansions separately
Missing downloadable content is often a display issue rather than a missing purchase. DLC may not appear as its own full-game tile in the Library.
In the EA app:
- Open Library.
- Select the base game.
- Open the game’s three-dot menu.
- Choose Manage add-ons.
- Find the owned expansion or DLC and select Download.
If an add-on is not listed, check Order History and confirm that you are signed in to the account that purchased it. Also check whether the add-on was bought through Steam, Epic, a console store, or another storefront, because the relevant entitlement and account link may be different.

5. Distinguish a purchase from EA Play access
A game you played through EA Play is not automatically a permanently owned game. EA Play access depends on an active membership and the title remaining in the applicable Play List. If a game disappears after migration, open the account’s Subscriptions and Memberships area and check whether your membership is active.
Also check whether the title is still included in your specific EA Play catalog. A game can leave a Play List without affecting games you purchased outright.
6. Verify Steam, Epic, and console connections
Some games purchased or launched through Steam or Epic still use the EA app for authentication. The storefront purchase and the EA Account relationship must point to the expected accounts.

Review Connected Accounts in your EA Account settings. For Steam, the account is generally linked the first time you launch an EA game through Steam. For Epic, launching the game from your Epic Library normally opens the EA app and presents the account-linking flow.

EA warns that changing linked accounts can be restricted. In particular, EA’s current guidance says that moving a Steam link to a different Steam account may not be possible until the previous link is more than 12 months old. If the wrong platform account is connected, gather the account details and contact EA Support before making further changes.
7. Refresh the EA app if the Library looks wrong
Cache clearing can resolve a stale Library, stuck download, offline-mode problem, or update issue. It cannot grant an entitlement to an account that never owned the game.
From the EA app, use:
Menu → Help → App Recovery → Clear cache
On Windows 10 and Windows 11, the Start menu also provides an EA App Recovery utility. After clearing the cache:
- Restart the EA app.
- Sign out and sign back in.
- Recheck Library, Manage add-ons, and Order History.
- Retry the download or launch.
If the problem persists, reinstall the EA app using the current installer from EA. Reinstalling the launcher does not change which account owns a game, but it may remove local launcher settings, so record any custom installation locations first.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute8. Repair games that are present but will not launch
If a game appears in the EA app but fails to start, open its tile’s three-dot menu and choose Repair. This checks the installed files and can replace corrupted or incomplete data.
Other possible causes include:
- Missing Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables
- Insufficient permissions
- Firewall or network restrictions
- EA service outages
- Game-specific compatibility problems
- Corrupted EA app files
Follow EA’s official troubleshooting path before using third-party utilities. Do not download individual DLL files from untrusted websites, use random registry cleaners, install unofficial Origin packages, or disable security software as a first-line fix.

9. Secure the EA Account before you lose access
Migration is a good reason to audit account security. EA recommends a strong, unique password and advises against reusing the EA password for your email account or console accounts. Add a secondary email address if your account supports it, so you have another recovery route.
Enable two-factor authentication
- Open your EA Account settings.
- Go to Security and Privacy.
- Enable Two-Factor Authentication.
- Choose email, an authenticator app, or text message where available.
- Store the generated backup codes in a secure place.
Backup codes matter because they may be the only way to sign in on a new device if you lose access to your chosen verification method. Save them in a password manager or another secure offline location. Never share your password, verification code, passkey, or backup codes with someone claiming to be support.
EA may also offer passkeys for some accounts. Availability can vary by account and device; regardless, use two-factor authentication where possible and keep recovery information current.

Account security protects your entitlement. It does not necessarily preserve local saves, screenshots, settings, mods, or downloaded game data. Make a separate backup of important files while they are still accessible.
A practical backup plan is:
- Identify the save, configuration, screenshot, mod, and game-data folders for each important title.
- Copy them to a second drive, such as an external SSD for gaming.
- Keep purchase receipts, redemption emails, and order information.
- Record the EA Account email and linked platforms in a secure password manager.
- Open a few copied files or otherwise verify that the backup is readable.
An external SSD is useful because it can hold local saves, settings, screenshots, mod folders, and—in situations where the files remain usable—already-downloaded game data. Choose storage capacity and connection type based on your computer and the amount of data you need to preserve; no single drive is universally ideal.

Save locations and restoration procedures vary by title, and cloud-save behavior is not identical across all EA games. Treat the drive as a resilience measure, not a substitute for account security.

- A Steam, Epic, or console link is incorrect and cannot be changed.
- You cannot complete two-factor authentication or account recovery.
Prepare proof of purchase, redemption emails, order numbers, the relevant EA Account email addresses, and the names of linked platform accounts. Avoid sending passwords or authentication codes. Support can investigate account and entitlement problems; a local backup cannot.
Origin-to-EA-app security checklist
- Install the current EA app from EA, not an unofficial Origin installer.
- Use the same EA Account that held your Origin purchases.
- Check Library and Installed games separately.
- Open Manage add-ons to find DLC and expansions.
- Check Order History, Payment and Wallet, and Subscriptions and Memberships.
- Review Connected Accounts before launching Steam or Epic titles.
- Clear the EA app cache if the Library or downloads look stale.
- Use Repair for a game that is installed but will not launch.
- Enable two-factor authentication and save the backup codes.
- Back up local saves and other important files to a second location.
Origin’s shutdown on Windows changes the launcher, not automatically the ownership of account-linked purchases. The safest transition is to secure the account first, verify every entitlement and platform connection, then preserve the local files that an account migration cannot restore by itself.
Frequently Asked Questions
Did EA delete my Origin games?
No. Origin is no longer available or supported as the Windows launcher, but EA says games and other content transfer to the EA app when you use the same EA Account. A missing game is more often an account, platform-linking, installation, or display problem than an automatic deletion.
What should I do if my games are missing in the EA app?
Sign out of the EA app and sign back in with the EA Account used for the original purchase. Then check Library, Order History, Payment and Wallet, Connected Accounts, and EA Play membership status. Clear the EA app cache if the Library still appears incomplete.
How do I find missing Origin DLC in the EA app?
Open Library, select the base game’s three-dot menu, choose Manage add-ons, find the expansion or DLC, and select Download. DLC may not appear as a separate full-game tile.
Does EA Play permanently give me the games I played?
No. EA Play access depends on an active membership and the title remaining in the relevant Play List. A game played through EA Play is not necessarily a permanently owned purchase.
Recommended Free Tools
Can a backup drive preserve my EA game ownership?
No. A local backup can preserve accessible saves, settings, screenshots, mods, and game data, but it cannot preserve your EA Account entitlement or replace EA authentication. Save locations and restoration methods also vary by game.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Install the EA app, sign in with your original EA Account, verify Library, DLC, Order History, EA Play, and connected platforms, then enable 2FA and back up local files. Origin is no longer the supported Windows route, but its retirement does not by itself delete games tied to the correct EA Account.
