These are re-releases of the classic PC games, not the later remakes. GOG’s 2024 launch announcement initially covered the first game, with RE2 and RE3 to follow.
Are Resident Evil 2 and 3 out yet?
Yes. GOG announced that the original PC version of Resident Evil 2 would be released on August 27, 2024, at 08:00 UTC. GOG’s current store pages list all three original games for purchase: Resident Evil, Resident Evil 2, and Resident Evil 3. The original trilogy later became available on Steam in April 2026, so GOG is no longer the only current PC storefront.

GOG’s 2024 announcement is available in its press release, and its RE2 release-date announcement gives the August 2024 date. Gematsu reported the trilogy’s Steam availability in April 2026: Steam release report.
Are these the original games or the remakes?
These are re-releases of the original PC versions of the trilogy, not the 2002 remake of the first game or the later remakes of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3. GOG says the first game retains its original content while adding quality-of-life improvements and compatibility work for modern systems. Store pages describe technical updates such as a revised DirectX renderer, rendering options, modern controller support, and fixes for older issues, but the feature list differs by title. Check each listing for the specific game you want rather than assuming every improvement applies to all three.

What should you check before buying?
Confirm the individual game’s requirements and features
The requirements and included features are not interchangeable across the trilogy. GOG’s current page for the first Resident Evil lists Windows 10/11, a 2.0 GHz processor, 2 GB of memory, DirectX 9.0c-compatible graphics, and 650 MB of storage as minimum requirements. Those figures apply to that listing; consult the RE2 or RE3 page for its own requirements.
The first game’s GOG page lists English, German, French, and Japanese localizations. Verify the language and feature details on the relevant product page before purchasing another entry.
Rank #2
- Return to the series origins - Discover the truth behind the horrors in the Resident Evil mansion, as well as what led up to them, in these titles which mark the beginning of the Resident Evil timeline.
- Relive the classic horror in either its original settings or modified to modern-day standards
- Play as Albert Wesker in Resident Evil 0 - After completing the main campaign, players will be able to take control of the fan-favorite series antagonist, complete with his Uroboros powers from Resident Evil 5, to wreak havoc in the all new Wesker Mode
- Play Anywhere: Play Resident Evil Origins Collection on the go using the Nintendo Switch system's handheld or tabletop mode
Choose the storefront that fits how you play
Both GOG and Steam currently offer the original trilogy. The GOG listing for the first game states that it includes a fully offline installer and does not require GOG Galaxy to play; Galaxy is optional for cloud saves and achievement synchronization. Do not assume those exact offline or DRM conditions apply to the Steam editions, or that the same GOG details apply to RE2 and RE3, without checking their current listings.
For the first game, GOG’s FAQ answers the Galaxy question directly: “No! You do not need GOG Galaxy to play Resident Evil.” See the product page and FAQ for its current details.
