OSRS: Best Slayer Tasks to Block (and How to Choose)

The best OSRS Slayer blocks depend on your master, eligible task pool, available slots, and whether you want experience, profit, points, or convenience.

There is no single best Slayer block list in Old School RuneScape. Block tasks you dislike that also carry substantial assignment weight for the Slayer master you use, while keeping tasks that suit your goal—whether that is experience, profit, points, or convenience. Your eligible task pool, unlocks, available slots, and preferences all change the answer.

Example: a default Duradel block list

As one worked example, the current OSRS Tools calculator’s displayed default Duradel setup recommends blocking these six tasks:

  • Metal dragons
  • Hellhounds
  • Black dragons
  • Greater demons
  • Kalphites
  • Aviansie

This is an example, not a universal prescription. The calculator allows players to configure eligibility and preferences, so its recommendations and displayed odds change with those inputs. In that specific scenario, it shows the chance of a Duradel assignment the player has marked to do increasing from 33.9% to 44.6% after applying its six suggested blocks; those are calculator-specific figures, not an independent game-wide statistic. See the OSRS Tools Slayer calculator, then verify your current block list and task pool in game before spending points.

How task weight and eligibility affect your odds

A task’s weight affects its relative chance of being selected from the tasks still eligible for assignment. A high weight matters because it makes that task more likely to appear within the eligible pool—not because weight alone determines an absolute assignment probability. Your actual pool is shaped by the Slayer master, your account’s requirements, and your unlocked tasks.

For a more accurate estimate, configure a planner with the requirements and unlocks that apply to your account. The OSRS Tools calculator exposes task odds, points, skips, eligibility filters, and multiple Slayer masters. Its underlying pool data is user-maintained and its repository says it was sourced from the OSRS Wiki in May 2026; treat it as a planning aid, not an official game interface. Choose blocks according to your goal

There are two separate questions: whether you want a task, and how often it is assigned. Start with the goal that matters most, then spend blocks on high-weight tasks you do not want to do. A task that is worthwhile for one goal may be a poor fit for another.

Goal How to think about blocks
Slayer experience Keep tasks that fit your preferred experience strategy; consider blocking frequent tasks you avoid or find slow.
Profit Keep tasks that suit your profit strategy and block high-weight tasks you do not want to complete.
Slayer points Consider both task quality and the point cost of blocks and skips; a block is not automatically worth buying if it undermines your point plan.
Convenience Prioritize tasks you dislike, cannot easily reach, or do not want to manage, while accounting for their weight and your available slots.

These are decision principles, not a ranking of task profitability or experience rates. The right list depends on your account and what you value.

Pick a Slayer master before choosing blocks

Block lists are master-specific, so first decide which master you intend to use. The calculator’s summaries describe Duradel as a task-quality choice, Konar as useful for points and hydra-oriented play but requiring assigned locations, and Nieve as an alternative with different requirements and point assumptions. Those are planner characterizations, not universal rankings. Compare the task quality, assignment odds, point costs and income, task-specific constraints such as location, and your account’s eligibility before choosing.

Check recent task and block changes

The same reproduced update text describes revised block prices and the combination of several dragon assignments into a Metal dragons task. This means older lists, videos, or calculators may not match the current interface. The update text is not an official Jagex-hosted source, so use it as a prompt to check the live in-game task list, block names, and prices before acting.

A practical checklist before you block

  1. Set your goal. Decide whether you are optimizing for experience, profit, points, or avoiding tasks you dislike.
  2. Choose your master. Build the list for the master you actually plan to use, and distinguish any Wilderness-specific list if relevant.
  3. Confirm eligibility. Account for Slayer and combat levels, quests, unlocks, and diary requirements that affect which tasks you can receive.
  4. Compare weight and preference. Use your slots on unwanted tasks that are more likely to be drawn from your eligible pool; do not block a task solely because it appears on someone else’s list.
  5. Verify before spending points. Check task names, block prices, and your current options in game, especially if your advice comes from an older guide.
