What is Tempoross in OSRS?
Tempoross is a Fishing-based skilling boss at the Ruins of Unkah. Jagex described the proposed activity in its 2020 poll blog as “a medium intensity fishing skill boss with competitive XP rates between level 35-70”; that was design-era wording, not a current measured comparison. The encounter supports solo and group play, and its mechanics scale with team size.
What level do you need for Tempoross?
You need at least 35 Fishing, and Tempoross is members-only. The OSRS Wiki’s Fishing overview identifies the boss at the Ruins of Unkah and describes boarding the boat on the dock to sail to Tempoross Cove.
How do you start Tempoross in OSRS?
- Travel to the Ruins of Unkah. Go to the dock and board the boat to reach Tempoross Cove.
- Catch harpoonfish. Fishing is the main activity; the fish you catch are used to power the cannons.
- Load the cannons. Use harpoonfish in the cannons to reduce Tempoross’s energy.
- Respond to hazards. Waves can knock down untethered players, water blasts target cannon areas, and lightning can start fires. Jagex’s design overview describes lightning rods and buckets of water as ways to manage these threats.
- Fish the spirit pool when Tempoross submerges. Fishing at pools near the boss reduces its remaining essence.
Those are the basic phases. Solo and group encounters both follow the fish, load, weaken, and spirit-pool loop; the encounter scales to group size, so a tactic suited to one setup should not be assumed to be best for every team.

What rewards can you get from Tempoross?
Participation earns Fishing XP and reward permits. Use permits at the reward pool to receive possible rewards, including fish determined by your Fishing level and a chance at unique fishing items. Named rewards include:
- Fish barrel: an in-game storage item for fish.
- Tackle box: an in-game item for storing fishing equipment.
- Spirit angler outfit components: components used to upgrade the Angler outfit into the Spirit angler outfit.

Is Tempoross good Fishing XP?
It can suit players who want an active Fishing activity with XP potential, but the rate depends on level and play. In its 2021 launch overview, Jagex estimated approximately 30,000 XP per hour at 35 Fishing, 70,000 at 70 Fishing, and 80,000 at 99 Fishing. These are launch-era expectations, not guaranteed rates or a current independent benchmark. Jagex also described the trade-off: compared with passive methods, Tempoross could offer stronger XP potential at some levels while yielding fewer fish and requiring more active play. Choose based on what you value most: XP potential, fish yield, activity level, solo or group play, or a particular in-game reward. Jagex characterized Tempoross at launch as a social alternative to hands-off Fishing training, not a universal best method.

Should you play solo or in a group?
Both are supported. Jagex’s launch overview says the encounter scales with team size, so you can approach it alone or join a group. Pick the format that suits your preference for social play and coordination; the available evidence does not establish one format as universally more efficient.
