outlookx.dll Missing: Trace Nokia Sync and Repair Windows Errors

outlookx.dll is a third-party application DLL, not a Microsoft Outlook or Windows system file. The most likely owner is the Synchronizer component of legacy Nokia PC Suite, so repair or reinstall that application instead of copying outlookx.dll into a Windows folder.

What this file actually does

outlookx.dll is described as OutlookX DLL, part of the OutlookX Dynamic Link Library, and was developed by Time Information Services Ltd. The name is misleading: it does not mean that the file belongs to the modern Microsoft Outlook application.

Public installation evidence connects this DLL family with Nokia PC Suite Synchronizer components. A Nokia PC Suite installation could include related files such as:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • OutlookX.dll
  • Outlook2.dll
  • SyncControl.dll
  • Wadrb.dll

The likely role of OutlookX.dll was integration between Outlook data and Nokia phone synchronization. That is an informed conclusion from the file name and PC Suite context, rather than a current, vendor-published technical specification.

This is a legacy application file rather than a Windows component. It should normally stay in the Nokia PC Suite or related program directory. Do not place it in either of these folders:

C:WindowsSystem32
C:WindowsSysWOW64

Public file metadata identifies the commonly reported build as a Win32, 32-bit DLL, with version and size information varying between inventories. A 32-bit Nokia application can still run on 64-bit Windows through Windows compatibility support. That does not mean its DLL belongs in SysWOW64; the correct location is normally the application’s own installation folder.

Causes and symptoms

What you see Most likely cause Best first action
“outlookx.dll is missing” when Nokia PC Suite starts PC Suite was partly removed or damaged Repair or reinstall Nokia PC Suite
“The program can’t start because outlookx.dll was not found” The application folder lacks the DLL or a companion file Check the owning program and reinstall its complete package
“Error loading outlookx.dll. The specified module could not be found” The DLL or one of its dependencies is missing Reinstall the complete application, not just one file
“Failed to load outlookx.dll” after moving the program Files were copied without the original installation structure Reinstall to the original application directory
The error started after antivirus activity The file may have been quarantined Review Windows Security Protection History
regsvr32 reports an error The DLL may not expose a registration entry point Stop trying to register it and repair the application
Only one Windows account sees the error Per-user settings, permissions, or startup data are damaged Test the application and its folder permissions under the affected account
The message names TIS_OutlookX.dll A different generation or build of the same component family may be involved Use the matching installer and do not substitute filenames

Reported messages vary. The wording is not an official standardized Windows list, and “the specified module could not be found” can mean that a dependency of outlookx.dll is missing even when the named file is present.

Fix outlookx.dll errors in order

1. Identify the program that is requesting the DLL

Before changing Windows files, confirm which application produces the error. This prevents you from repairing the wrong program.

Check the error window

Write down:

  1. The complete filename, including capitalization and any prefix.
  2. The application named in the title bar.
  3. The full error text.
  4. When the error appears, such as during sign-in, startup, phone connection, or synchronization.

Pay particular attention to whether the message says outlookx.dll or TIS_OutlookX.dll. Do not assume that similarly named files can be exchanged.

Check the shortcut

  1. Right-click the shortcut that produces the error.
  2. Select Properties.
  3. On the Shortcut tab, inspect Target and Start in.
  4. Note the application folder.
  5. Select Cancel without changing anything.

If the target points to Nokia PC Suite, Nokia Synchronizer, or another old phone-management program, that program is the repair target.

Check installed applications

On Windows 11:

  1. Press Windows + I.
  2. Select Apps.
  3. Select Installed apps.
  4. Search for Nokia PC Suite, Nokia Synchronizer, or related Nokia software.

On Windows 10:

  1. Press Windows + I.
  2. Select Apps.
  3. Select Apps & features.
  4. Search the list for the same programs.

You can also open Control Panel, select Programs, then Programs and Features. Look for an entry with a Repair, Change, or similar maintenance option.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Search for the file and companion files

Open File Explorer and search the drive for:

outlookx.dll
TIS_OutlookX.dll
Outlook2.dll
SyncControl.dll

A result inside a Nokia PC Suite directory supports the connection. A result in a temporary download folder, an unfamiliar application directory, or a Windows system directory deserves additional caution.

Do not run an unfamiliar copy merely because its filename matches. The file’s location and the application that requests it matter more than the name alone.

2. Repair Nokia PC Suite or the owning application

Repair is the safest first fix when the program is still installed. It can restore missing files while preserving the existing application registration and settings.

Try Windows application repair

If the program appears under Windows 11’s installed apps:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Open Settings with Windows + I.
  2. Select Apps.
  3. Select Installed apps.
  4. Find Nokia PC Suite or the related application.
  5. Select the three-dot menu beside it.
  6. Select Advanced options, if available.
  7. Select Repair.
  8. Wait for Windows to finish.
  9. Start the application again.

If Repair is not available, do not select Reset immediately. Reset can remove application data or settings. Use the desktop-program repair method below instead.

Use the desktop program’s maintenance option

  1. Press Windows + R.
  2. Enter:

text
appwiz.cpl

  1. Press Enter.
  2. Select Nokia PC Suite or the application named in the error.
  3. Select Repair or Change.
  4. Follow the installer prompts.
  5. Restart Windows if the installer requests it.
  6. Start the original application from its normal shortcut.

If the repair completes successfully, the program should open without the missing-DLL message. Test the specific function that previously failed, such as opening Synchronizer or connecting the phone.

If the repair option fails, is unavailable, or the application is only partially listed, continue with a full reinstall.

3. Reinstall the complete original application

A complete reinstall is the most likely definitive fix for a damaged Nokia PC Suite installation. It restores the DLL together with companion files and dependencies.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

First, make sure you have a trusted original Nokia PC Suite installer or verified archival installation media. Current official standalone support for this legacy DLL is not available, and a separate DLL download is not an equivalent replacement for the application installer.

Remove the damaged installation

  1. Open Settings with Windows + I.
  2. Select Apps.
  3. Select Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
  4. Select Nokia PC Suite or the related synchronization program.
  5. Select Uninstall.
  6. Complete the removal wizard.
  7. Restart Windows.

If it is not listed:

  1. Press Windows + R.
  2. Enter appwiz.cpl.
  3. Press Enter.
  4. Select the program in Programs and Features.
  5. Select Uninstall or Change.
  6. Follow the prompts.
  7. Restart the computer.

Do not manually delete folders before uninstalling. The uninstaller may need those files to remove services, shortcuts, and startup entries correctly.

Install it again

  1. Close other programs.
  2. Right-click the trusted installer.
  3. Select Run as administrator.
  4. Accept the installer terms.
  5. Keep the default installation folder unless the installer requires another location.
  6. Allow the complete Synchronizer or Outlook integration components to install.
  7. Finish the installation.
  8. Restart Windows.
  9. Launch Nokia PC Suite from its installed shortcut.

If the program installs but the same error returns, record the exact application path and filename. A missing dependency, incompatible legacy component, or blocked installer may be the real problem.

If you previously copied the program to another drive or computer, remove that copied version from your startup shortcuts and reinstall it normally. Legacy applications often expect their DLLs, configuration files, and companion components to remain together.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

4. Check Windows Security Protection History

Antivirus software can quarantine a DLL. Do not restore a file simply because the application says it is missing. First verify that the file came from the original Nokia PC Suite installation.

  1. Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
  2. Select Virus & threat protection.
  3. Select Protection history.
  4. Review recent detections and quarantined items.
  5. Expand an item related to Nokia PC Suite or outlookx.dll.
  6. Check its original path and detection details.
  7. If the application and installer are trusted, select the available restore or allow action.
  8. Run the Nokia PC Suite repair or reinstall procedure afterward.

Microsoft warns that restoring a malicious file can expose the computer. If the file came from an unknown download, an unofficial repack, or an unfamiliar folder, leave it quarantined and remove the unsafe program instead.

After restoring a verified file, start the application again. If it immediately disappears from the folder or is quarantined again, do not repeatedly whitelist it. Update Windows Security and run a full scan.

5. Reinstall the application rather than copying one DLL

A missing DLL is often only the visible part of a damaged installation. outlookx.dll may depend on other files, and Nokia PC Suite may depend on its own configuration, drivers, and synchronization components.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Copying a single DLL can produce a new error such as:

  • A companion DLL is missing.
  • The entry point cannot be found.
  • The application has an incompatible version.
  • The file is blocked or quarantined.
  • The program starts but synchronization fails.

The reliable sequence is:

  1. Uninstall the damaged Nokia software.
  2. Restart Windows.
  3. Remove only a leftover application folder that you have confirmed belongs to that program.
  4. Install the complete package again.
  5. Restart Windows.
  6. Test the application before copying any old files or settings back.

Do not mix outlookx.dll and TIS_OutlookX.dll from different packages or releases. A matching set of files from one installer is safer than individually replacing files from several sources.

6. Repair Windows components only when other Windows problems exist

outlookx.dll is not documented as a Windows-protected system file. Therefore, System File Checker and DISM normally will not recreate it. Use these commands when you also have damaged Windows features, system errors, or multiple built-in Windows components failing.

Run DISM first

  1. Open Start.
  2. Type Command Prompt.
  3. Right-click Command Prompt.
  4. Select Run as administrator.
  5. Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
  6. Enter:

text
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

  1. Press Enter.
  2. Wait for the operation to complete.
  3. Keep the window open even if progress pauses.
  4. Restart Windows.

A successful result says that the restore operation completed successfully. If DISM reports that it cannot repair the image, note the error and continue with application repair rather than treating the result as proof that outlookx.dll is a Windows file.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Run System File Checker

After DISM finishes:

  1. Open an elevated Command Prompt again.
  2. Enter:

text
sfc /scannow

  1. Press Enter.
  2. Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
  3. Restart Windows.
  4. Test the application.

If SFC reports that it repaired files, test Windows and Nokia PC Suite again. If it reports that it found no integrity violations, that is also expected for a third-party DLL. Reinstall the owning application instead.

Repeating SFC and DISM without identifying what changed can consume time while leaving the application installation untouched. If you prefer help identifying corrupted Windows components before manually interpreting command output, Outbyte PC Repair provides a free scan showing what it detects; repair is performed by the full version. Reinstalling Nokia PC Suite remains the definitive fix when its own DLL is missing.

7. Update or reinstall related phone drivers

A driver problem does not usually recreate outlookx.dll, but it can make Nokia PC Suite fail later, after the DLL error is repaired. Check drivers when the program opens but cannot detect the phone, or when the error began after a device or Windows change.

Check Device Manager

  1. Right-click the Start button.
  2. Select Device Manager.
  3. Expand Portable Devices, Universal Serial Bus controllers, and any Nokia-related category.
  4. Look for a warning icon.
  5. Right-click the relevant device.
  6. Select Properties.
  7. Read the message under Device status.
  8. Select Driver to view the driver details.
  9. Use Update Driver only with a driver from Windows Update or the verified device software.
  10. Restart Windows and test the phone connection.

Do not use Device Manager to replace outlookx.dll. Device Manager manages hardware drivers, not application DLLs.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

You can also check Windows Update:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Select Windows Update.
  3. Select Check for updates.
  4. Open Advanced options.
  5. Select Optional updates, if present.
  6. Review driver updates carefully.
  7. Install only updates appropriate for the device.

Manually identifying a compatible driver can mean comparing hardware IDs, old Nokia packages, and Windows versions. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers and show what it finds; driver installation is performed by the full version, and it is not a replacement for reinstalling the Nokia application itself.

8. Check optional Windows features only for a specific compatibility error

Windows Features will not normally install outlookx.dll. Do not enable random legacy components as a general DLL fix.

Use this area only if the application installer or a separate error specifically names a missing Windows compatibility feature.

  1. Press Windows + R.
  2. Enter:

text
optionalfeatures

  1. Press Enter.
  2. Review the feature named by the application or installer.
  3. Select only the required feature.
  4. Select OK.
  5. Restart Windows if prompted.
  6. Run the Nokia repair or installation again.

If no feature is named, close the dialog and return to application repair. Enabling unrelated legacy features can add unnecessary software without restoring the correct application file.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

9. Do not use regsvr32 as a universal DLL repair

regsvr32 registers DLLs that provide the required registration entry point, commonly called DllRegisterServer. It is not a general command for installing or repairing every DLL.

A typical registration command would be:

regsvr32 "C:Program FilesNokiaNokia PC Suite 6OutlookX.dll"

However, do not run this merely because outlookx.dll is missing. A failed registration attempt has been reported in a Nokia-related installation, and there is no verified evidence that every build of this DLL is designed for manual registration.

Use regsvr32 only when the original vendor documentation or installer explicitly requires it and identifies the exact file and architecture. Otherwise:

  1. Cancel the registration attempt.
  2. Repair or reinstall the application.
  3. Test the program again.

Registering a 32-bit DLL with the wrong regsvr32 executable can also create architecture confusion. The normal repair path avoids that problem.

10. Use System Restore for a recent change

System Restore is appropriate when the error appeared immediately after an incomplete installation, removal, or system change and a suitable restore point exists.

  1. Press Windows + R.
  2. Enter:

text
rstrui.exe

  1. Press Enter.
  2. Select Next.
  3. Choose a restore point dated before the error began.
  4. Select Scan for affected programs, if available.
  5. Review the applications and drivers that may be changed.
  6. Select Close after reviewing.
  7. Select Next.
  8. Select Finish.
  9. Allow Windows to restart.

System Restore can roll back applications, drivers, and system settings. Personal files are normally preserved, but review the affected-program list before confirming.

After Windows starts, test Nokia PC Suite. If the DLL error remains, perform a clean application repair or reinstall rather than running repeated restores.

11. Scan for malware when the file or error looks suspicious

Run a malware scan if:

  • The DLL is in a temporary or unrelated folder.
  • The file appeared after installing an unofficial program.
  • Windows Security repeatedly detects it.
  • The application was downloaded from an untrusted source.
  • Other unknown startup entries appeared at the same time.

To run a full Microsoft Defender scan:

  1. Open Windows Security.
  2. Select Virus & threat protection.
  3. Select Scan options.
  4. Select Full scan.
  5. Select Scan now.
  6. Allow the scan to finish.
  7. Follow Windows Security’s recommended action.

If you suspect an active compromise, use Microsoft Defender Offline scan from the same Scan options page. Save open work first because the computer will restart.

Free tools Windows power users keep installed

Do not add an unknown DLL to antivirus exclusions simply to make an old application start.

If you no longer use Nokia PC Suite

If you do not own the phone, no longer synchronize Outlook data, and do not need Nokia PC Suite, restoring the DLL may be unnecessary.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Select Apps.
  3. Select Installed apps or Apps & features.
  4. Uninstall Nokia PC Suite and related obsolete Nokia synchronization software.
  5. Open Task Manager with Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
  6. Select Startup apps.
  7. Disable a confirmed Nokia synchronization startup entry.
  8. Restart Windows.

If the error appears only because an orphaned startup entry launches a removed program, disabling or removing that entry resolves the message without restoring old software.

Do not disable an entry merely because its name is unfamiliar. Open its file location or check its publisher first.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Why random DLL downloads are unsafe

Downloading outlookx.dll from an arbitrary DLL site can give you:

  • A different build with incompatible dependencies.
  • A file for the wrong architecture.
  • A modified or malicious file.
  • A file that does not match Outlook2.dll or SyncControl.dll.
  • A replacement that leaves the damaged application installation untouched.

The safe source is the original application installer supplied with Nokia PC Suite or verified installation media. Microsoft repair tools are appropriate for Windows components, but Microsoft does not provide a standalone outlookx.dll package.

Never copy this file into System32 or SysWOW64. Doing so can cause version conflicts, incorrect loading, or DLL hijacking and does not repair the Nokia application in its intended directory.

Final diagnostic checklist

Before asking for further help, record:

  1. The exact error text.
  2. Whether the filename is outlookx.dll or TIS_OutlookX.dll.
  3. The application that displays the error.
  4. The full application path.
  5. Whether the file exists anywhere on the drive.
  6. Whether Windows Security quarantined it.
  7. Whether repair or reinstall completed successfully.
  8. Your Windows version and whether it is 32-bit or 64-bit.
  9. Whether the issue affects every Windows account.
  10. What changed immediately before the error appeared.

This information distinguishes a missing file from a missing dependency, a blocked file, a mismatched legacy build, or a leftover startup entry.

FAQ

Is outlookx.dll part of Microsoft Outlook?

No. The similar name refers to the OutlookX component associated with legacy third-party synchronization software. It is not the normal Microsoft Outlook DLL.

Is outlookx.dll a Windows system file?

No. It is associated with an application developed by Time Information Services Ltd. It should not be treated as a protected Windows file or copied into a Windows system directory.

Which program usually installs it?

The strongest product association is Nokia PC Suite, particularly its Synchronizer components. The exact component and filename can vary between old releases, so check the application path and full filename.

Can I download the DLL by itself?

Do not use an arbitrary standalone DLL download. Reinstall the complete Nokia PC Suite or other owning application from trusted original installation media so the DLL and its dependencies match.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Should I run sfc /scannow?

Run SFC only when Windows itself has other integrity problems. SFC normally will not restore a third-party Nokia DLL. If you use it, run DISM first, then SFC.

Should I register the DLL with regsvr32?

Usually not. Registration is appropriate only when the vendor or installer specifically requires it. It is not a universal fix for a missing application DLL.

Does a 64-bit Windows installation need a 64-bit version?

Public metadata identifies the commonly reported file as Win32, or 32-bit. A 64-bit Windows system can run the 32-bit Nokia application, but the DLL should remain beside that application. Do not substitute a different architecture or copy it into SysWOW64.

What if the program works for another Windows user?

Check the affected account’s permissions, per-user application settings, startup entries, and access to the installation folder. If reinstalling only helps one account, the remaining problem may be profile-specific rather than a missing DLL.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What if reinstalling does not help?

Confirm the exact filename, application path, and error wording. Check antivirus quarantine, verify that all companion files were installed, and consider that “the specified module could not be found” may identify a missing dependency rather than outlookx.dll itself.
