If Overcooked! 2 co-op is not working on PC, first check whether you are playing Campaign or Arcade/Versus, and whether everyone is on Steam or someone is joining from Epic. For Steam-to-Epic play, the Steam player must switch to the crossplay_branch and use Team17’s in-game friend system. If the game itself freezes, treat that as a separate problem: invite and NAT checks do not diagnose a freeze.
First identify what is failing
An invitation that never arrives, a friend who cannot join, and a game that stops responding are different symptoms. Start with the matching row below so you do not apply a multiplayer fix to a local performance or crash problem.
| Symptom or setup | What to check |
|---|---|
| Steam player cannot join an Epic player | Use the Team17 friends system, and have the Steam player switch to crossplay_branch. |
| Steam players cannot join one another | Make sure all players are on the same branch: all on the default branch or all on crossplay_branch. |
| Campaign invitation or join fails | Invite from the in-game friends list; for Steam, get everyone into the game lobby before starting Steam overlay voice or group features. |
| Arcade or Versus matchmaking fails | Use the in-game lobby or matchmaking flow rather than assuming Campaign invitations work the same way. |
| The game freezes or crashes | Check PC compatibility separately. The cited official support material does not establish a specific freeze-repair sequence. |
Set up Steam-to-Epic cross-play
Team17’s Help Center says cross-play is available between Steam and Epic on PC through its friends system. Its guidance is specific to those storefronts; it should not be read as a claim about other platform combinations.
- On the Steam PC, open Steam Library.
- Right-click Overcooked! 2 and choose Properties.
- Open Betas.
- Select
crossplay_branchand allow Steam to download and install the update. - In the game, use the Team17 friends system to add or invite the other player, then join through the game.
Team17 says changing branches does not delete progress. Steam players joining each other must still match branches: everyone should be on the Crossplay Branch, or everyone should remain on the default branch. The Crossplay Branch is required for the documented Steam-to-Epic setup.

Use the invitation flow for your game mode
Campaign or story play
Team17’s FAQ directs Campaign players to invite friends from the friends list. For Steam invitations, its troubleshooting guidance recommends inviting friends into the Overcooked! in-game lobby first. Only after everyone is in the game lobby should you open Steam overlay voice chats, groups, or VoIP lobbies; using those overlay features earlier can interfere with invites.

Arcade or Versus
Team17 describes Arcade and Versus as using in-game lobby or matchmaking. Follow the relevant in-game flow for those modes rather than treating them as Campaign friend-list invitations.
Team17’s FAQ says Steam and Nintendo Switch players need a third-party voice service. That is the FAQ’s communication guidance for that pairing, not proof that no other communication options exist.

Check network conditions if invites still fail
If invitations or joining still fail after using the right branch and in-game flow, Team17 suggests checking that PC drivers are current and that the network has an Open or Moderate NAT. These are troubleshooting checks for connectivity and invites, not established fixes for a local freeze.

- Pick, Duel, and Win: Each game, players pick five cards and memorize the tasks before the cards are hidden under the numbered cover cards. Then, the judge flips cards until a number card appears and the two dueling players attempt to complete the matching challenge first. The winner takes the stack of cards, then play shifts one to the left. Whoever has the most cards at the end wins. This fast-paced memory card game for family game night delivers exciting, competitive moments every single game.
- Packed with Wild Tasks: Oh No Banana Joe! features two different card types, the 24 action cards, and the 24 verbal challenges, each introducing a different kind of quick-thinking test. One moment you are putting your thumb on your nose and shouting a phrase, the next you are naming a flavor of ice cream before your opponent does. This interactive game with a variety of action and memory challenges keeps every round feeling fresh and unpredictable, game after game.
- Duel Card Game that Gets Everyone Laughing: From goofy physical actions to rapid-fire verbal responses, Oh No Banana Joe! is built to generate laughs. Whether players are watching two opponents scramble to complete a ridiculous task or cheering from the sidelines, everyone stays engaged between games. A laugh-out-loud reaction time game including a cool banana and a mischievous monkey, this silly party game for kids and adults brings energy and personality to any gathering.
- 3 to 6 Players and Ready in Minutes: Designed for ages 7 and up and with games complete in about 10 minutes each, Oh No Banana Joe! is a natural fit for birthday party games for kids, sleepover games, classroom icebreakers, and casual family gatherings. Its compact format also makes it one of the best travel card games for families, easy to toss in a bag for road trips, camping, or any time you need a quick kids card game that works for mixed ages without any setup hassle.
- Real Excitement for Every Player: Unlike games where only one person acts at a time, Oh No Banana Joe! puts two players in direct competition while the rest of the group watches and reacts. This head-to-head party game format means the energy never drops, and because there are so many possible tasks, no two duels ever feel alike. It is a lightly competitive party card game that rewards quick reflexes and sharp memory in equal measure, perfect for family game night.
- Check for current PC drivers.
- Find out whether the network reports Open, Moderate, or another NAT status.
- If NAT needs changing, ask your internet service provider or router manufacturer for instructions appropriate to your network.
Team17 does not present a particular router purchase as necessary, and its NAT guidance does not guarantee that changing NAT will resolve every invitation problem.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. If Overcooked! 2 itself freezes
A failed invite is not evidence that the game has frozen, and a freeze is not evidence of a NAT problem. First note whether the application becomes unresponsive during local play, while loading, or only when entering online play; this distinction helps describe the issue to support, but does not by itself identify a cause.

Compare your PC with Steam’s posted minimums
Steam’s Overcooked! 2 listing publishes these Windows minimum requirements. They are store specifications, not a diagnosis or a guarantee of stable performance.
| Component | Steam-listed minimum |
|---|---|
| Operating system | 64-bit Windows 7 |
| Processor | Intel i3-2100 or AMD A8-5600K |
| Memory | 4 GB RAM |
| Graphics | GeForce GTX 630 or Radeon HD 6570 |
| DirectX | Version 11 |
| Available storage | 3 GB |
Compare the PC against the full Steam store listing. Meeting minimums does not prove that a particular freeze has been resolved; the listing also does not supply a recommended RAM value.
When to contact support
Team17’s technical support index lists separate topics for crashes, network connectivity, and performance. Use the category that matches the symptom, or contact Team17 support if basic compatibility checks do not clarify an actual freeze. The available official material does not establish that verifying files, reinstalling, changing graphics settings, or buying hardware is a Team17-endorsed fix for this issue.
