No. Nintendo’s US product listing gives the Switch 2 Edition’s release date as November 6, 2025, so it was already available by October 8, 2026. Nintendo’s listing is the source for the US date; availability and store terms can vary by region.

What does the Switch 2 Edition add?
Nintendo lists CameraPlay, GameShare, 4K/60 FPS gameplay and the Platinum Platypus chef among the edition’s features. The listing does not specify the conditions for its 4K/60 FPS claim, so it is best understood as Nintendo’s product specification, not an independent performance test. CameraPlay: confirmed support, limited detail
Nintendo marks CameraPlay as supported, but its product page does not explain the feature’s exact implementation in Overcooked! 2. It does not establish what appears on screen during play or whether CameraPlay requires an online GameChat session. Do you need to buy a camera?
No camera is required simply to play the game. Nintendo says a compatible USB-C camera, such as the Nintendo Switch 2 Camera, is sold separately and required for some game features and video chat. A camera is therefore optional unless you want to use camera-dependent features. Nintendo’s New Zealand eShop listing carries the camera notice.

Nintendo’s US listing says online features require an internet connection, a Nintendo Account and a Nintendo Switch Online membership. It also lists television, tabletop and handheld play modes, and a 11.7 GB file size for the Switch 2 version. These specifications are on Nintendo’s product page.
Can Switch and Switch 2 players play together?
Yes. Team17 says online play is supported between Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 users, so owners of the original version can play online with people using the Switch 2 Edition. Team17’s Switch 2 page also explains the upgrade path and save and DLC details.

What happens if you already own Overcooked! 2 on Switch?
Team17 says existing Switch owners can use a paid upgrade path to get the Switch 2 Edition. The price may differ by region or change over time, so check the current Nintendo store price for your account’s region rather than assuming a listed amount is universal.

- Progression: Team17 says progression can be transferred between Switch and Switch 2.
