If you loved coordinating with someone through Overcooked’s frantic kitchen rounds, Stage Fright offers a different kind of two-player challenge: a longer, story-led puzzle adventure built around communication and teamwork. It is not a promise to repair a relationship; it is Ghost Town Games taking the cooperative problem-solving at the heart of Overcooked into a mystery filled with escape-room-style puzzles.
What is Stage Fright?
Stage Fright on Steam describes a two-player cooperative puzzle adventure from Ghost Town Games, the studio behind Overcooked, and lists Hello Games as publisher. Players explore a strange town, solve escape rooms, overcome obstacles and unravel an ancient mystery. The story follows Drew, Blake and Charlie; players switch between pairs of kids as it unfolds from two perspectives.

Ghost Town Games says players can play online or side by side. Its official game overview emphasizes communication, teamwork and escape-room-style cooperation. The Steam description sums up the intended challenge as: “The challenge is in the mind, not the finger-tips!”

It shares Overcooked’s emphasis on cooperating with another player, but the pace and tasks are different. In its September 9, 2026 gameplay announcement, Ghost Town Games contrasts Overcooked’s urgency in timed levels with Stage Fright’s long-form mystery and cooperative puzzles. Expect a change in the kind of coordination required, not a kitchen game with a new setting.

Ghost Town Games says it wants to carry forward couch co-op’s social appeal and Overcooked’s accessibility while taking players out of the kitchen and into a larger adventure. In their September 9, 2026 announcement, founders Phil and Oli described the shift this way: “In contrast to the fraught urgency of time-based levels, in Stage Fright, players can immerse themselves in a long-form mystery which required them to work together to solve escape-room like puzzles, tackle strange and perplexing obstacles together and combine their mental agility to figure out what has happened in this strange town filled with odd characters.”
Can you play Stage Fright with two players?
Yes. Stage Fright is described as a two-player co-op game. The official descriptions support both online play and local, side-by-side play, so the intended partnership can be in the same room or connected remotely. The sources do not establish a final platform-by-platform release schedule, so availability of either arrangement on a particular platform has not been specified.

When does Stage Fright come out?
Ghost Town Games announced a Spring 2027 release target on September 9, 2026. The Steam listing currently says “To be announced,” rather than giving a specific date. Treat Spring 2027 as the developer’s announced target, not a confirmed launch day.
What is known about the Overcooked connection?
Ghost Town Games says the original Overcooked was released in 2016 and that it co-developed Overcooked 2 with Team17 and other collaborators; its studio history provides that background. In its 2026 announcement, the studio said Overcooked had been played by “tens of millions of players” and had won “two BAFTAs and a TGA.” Those are the developer’s reported figures, not independently verified audience measurements.
