What changed in the Overwatch 2 October 1 patch?
- Stadium Competitive: Blizzard changed rank distribution and match-point calculations to address unusually low point gains near predicted ranks and make Elite easier to reach for most players.
- Stadium heroes: Freja’s powers were generally strengthened; Tracer received a mix of reductions and improvements; Brigitte’s Sköldkastning power was reduced.
- Armory: The Codebreaker Epic General Weapon item now costs 10,000 instead of 9,000.
- Fixes: The patch fixes issues affecting Mercy, Wuyang and several Stadium heroes, and re-enables Aatlis after a stairs fix.
The percentages and prices below are values stated in Blizzard’s patch notes, not measured post-patch match outcomes. Blizzard’s October 1, 2025 patch notes provide no numeric win-rate results.
How did Stadium Competitive progression change?
Blizzard fixed an issue that caused players near their predicted rank to start gaining extremely low Stadium Points. It also adjusted the Stadium Ranked distribution curve to make Elite easier to reach for most players.

In competitive matches, each round won now reduces the overall point loss by more, and Blizzard adjusted the minimum and maximum Stadium Points that can be won or lost. The notes do not publish the revised point bounds or a numerical distribution curve.
Blizzard said progression had begun to feel more difficult as players reached predicted ranks faster: “The dynamic updates to Stadium Competitive have made progressing in the system feel more difficult as players are now finding their predicted ranks faster.” The developer comments say Blizzard would monitor the experience heading into Season 19. What changed for Freja, Tracer and Brigitte in Stadium?
These hero-power adjustments are Stadium changes. The values describe the powers as listed in the patch notes; they do not establish how much a hero’s match performance changed.
Freja: five power improvements
Blizzard said Freja had the lowest Stadium win rate for an extended period, without publishing a numerical rate. It described the adjustments as an effort to improve consistency without increasing her damage ceiling or one-shot capability.

Tracer: lower item gains, with other power adjustments
Chronal Crux now reduces Health, Armor and Shields gained from items and cash by 35%, up from a 25% reduction. The other changes affect healing, cooldown utility, auto-aim, portal duration and an item’s Ability Power and cost.

Blizzard said Tracer was performing well across the board and that it wanted to limit high Health accumulation while improving some weapon-focused builds. The patch notes provide no numerical performance statistic.

Brigitte: Sköldkastning damage reduced
Sköldkastning now makes Shield Boomerang damage equal to 40% of Shield Bash damage, down from 60%. Blizzard explained that a midseason core-game Shield Bash damage buff had unintentionally increased Sköldkastning damage, leaving the power overperforming. The stated aim was to bring it closer to other powers and preserve build variety.

Yes. The Codebreaker Epic General Weapon item in the Armory costs 10,000 instead of 9,000. Chrono Bomb’s separate Stadium item cost also increased as shown in the Tracer changes above.

Which bugs did the patch fix?
- Mercy: Fixed an Ultimate animation and voice-line issue in Overwatch Classic.
- Wuyang: Fixed an issue where his Ultimate sometimes targeted closer enemies than intended.
- Aatlis: Fixed a stairs issue and re-enabled the map.
- Stadium Moira: Fixed Optimal Overflow spawning Biotic Orbs without reduced duration.
- Stadium Pharah: Fixed Triple Volley rockets dealing more damage than intended.
- Stadium Reinhardt: Fixed Shield Stampede causing the camera not to lock in place during Charge.
- Stadium Soldier: 76: Fixed Peripheral Pulse failing to deal reduced damage to additional targets during Tactical Visor.
