The available statements do not give a headcount or show that Stadium had a wholly separate development team.
What did Blizzard say about Stadium’s developers?
In a May 2025 official Overwatch 2 Stadium AMA, a development team member said: “While there are devs dedicated to stadium (like Dylan), a large part of the team is still supporting the live game WHILE working on stadium.” The speaker was not named in the surfaced answer.

The statement supports a limited conclusion: some developers were dedicated to Stadium, while substantial team effort also went to the live game. It does not establish how many people worked on Stadium, what share of their time they spent on it, how long that arrangement lasted, or whether the dedicated developers worked on Stadium exclusively.
Why did Stadium need dedicated development?
Stadium was not simply another queue using the standard match format. Blizzard described it as a best-of-seven mode with two teams of five, where players buy upgrades and powers that can substantially change their heroes. Its launch announcement also described a third-person camera. Those systems help explain why Blizzard identified developers as dedicated to the mode, though the company has not published a staffing breakdown.

Blizzard’s Stadium overview outlines the mode and its core mechanics.
What is Stadium’s current support plan?
In a July 2026 Director’s Take, game director Aaron Keller said Blizzard planned to continue seasonal balance updates, rank resets, and rewards for Stadium, but did not plan to add new heroes or maps. Keller said the team would apply what it had learned from building the mode, and its developers’ talent, to future plans.

That distinguishes ongoing upkeep from expansion: Blizzard described continued seasonal support, but no planned additions of heroes or maps. The post does not identify specific developers being reassigned or detail which future projects they will work on.

Blizzard reported that, as of June 28, 2026, Stadium Ranked and Stadium Unranked each accounted for about 3% of daily players. These are Blizzard’s figures, not an independently audited count. Blizzard also cautioned that a player can be counted in every mode they play during a session and that the post did not list every mode, so the percentages do not add up to 100%.

The participation snapshot gives context for Stadium’s audience, but it does not establish the precise reason for Blizzard’s support plans or reveal the staffing decision behind them.
